A couple of months ago I acquired a Space Duel that included a HSS kit and it has been working well most of the time.

After a few hours I hear a single click sound and then the high scores are reset to nothing, no scores at all. It doesn't happen often but when it does it's really annoying. :)

I've tried watching it more closely but it can be an hour or two between click events and I always miss the event, unable to capture any helpful measurements.

Any suggestions on what I can do or where I should start looking for the cause of this issue?

My bet is a bad socket connection with the HSS kit. (When CPU goes insane, the coin counters sometimes "click").
Many HSS kits were produced with "large pin headers" that are not correct for most 40pin sockets (or original Atari CPU socket).

Solution is the change the headers and put a new socket on the main logic board.

YMMV

If the logic board's CPU socket has been compromised by the HSS kit's pins, then it is possible you'll see similar results (i.e. random errors, re-boots etc).

YMMV
