Hey,

just got my space duel and it worked for few moments without flaws. But then the upper screen half broke down in one line. So for me it seems that the half Y deflection does not work anymore.

Checked voltage on Game PCB = 5.0V, check voltage before connector 5.15V, so I assume connectors are ok.

I lack on a good approach. Where to start? Any recommend reading?

Bye

Jochen

There are a few threads already on the subject. Should be able to help.

And a good faq: http://www.ionpool.net/arcade/tech/6100_faq.pdf

Also, when I lost half deflection on my Battlezone, I was able to get the image back by gently moving the connection wires around to see if there was any change on the screen. When it came back a few times, I knew it was the wiring. Turns out it was a cold-solder joint going to the chassis mounted transitors.
* I would only recommend doing this if you know what you're looking at and which wires you're touching. Don't just start grabbing random wires with the monitor on.

Good luck!

Hey,

thanks for your help. I started with the FAQ and had some experiences from a Asteroids restoration. So my first guess was the deflection PCB. I made a visual inspection and recognised some bad solder point and even loose pins for some parts. So I resoldered the connectors and that stuff.

Afterwards I measured parts like transistors, resistores and the elkos. Everything was fine. After that action I tested the pcb again and the cab works like a charm.

I`ve made a little roadtrip report in my blog

This was my first cab imported from US to germany. :) It was worth it :)
