I got a space duel that's monitor is acting up. I know everything is working I just pulled a major havoc conversion kit out of this machine last night then I go and hook up SD and nothing shows up on the monitor. red lights on the pcb and control panel. And the spot killer light will not go out on the monitor. Was wonder if I missed something obvious? Ive had this monitor collapse before but it was loose molexs from the delivery. I unplugged a few molex and replugged and same with edge connectors. I know the SD pcb is working as I played it last week. Thanks.

I know soldering and voltage testing will be the replys and as of now that's above my head. But willing to learn. Or watch a video anyone has posted on diagnoseing Atari and wg6100

Could be lots of things - cold solder joints at the molex plugs in the monitor are very common. Does the game play blind?

A huge wealth of information is available in the Wells Gardner 6100 color vector monitor FAQ. Read that first.

Do you hear it playing blind? If this monitor worked with your MH conversion, but now won't work with your SD, it stands to reason the problem isn't with the monitor but with either the SD board, the connection (or power) to that board, or the connection to the monitor...

Will not play blind...I should stop buying machine until I can fix machines. But to addicted.

Then it sounds like the reason your monitor has the spot killer is because the SD board is not up and running...

No. If you turn the brightness up you'd get a small dot in the center...

So if I test major havoc pcb and monitor works its pcb if it also has spot killer its monitor I'm correct in assuming this

Ow.

You are really hard to understand :D

You need to troubleshoot why the game board isn't working. If the Space Duel board was working at one point, then something is probably just not hooked up right, or perhaps you have power supply problems. I would unplug the monitor until you can get Space Duel to play blind (coin up and hear the sounds). Then, once you have a working game, hook the monitor back up.

The spot killer light is on because the spot killer is doing what it's supposed to - killing the spot. Because a vector monitor has no internal scan generation, without a signal from the game board, you would get a white dot in the very center of the screen, all the time, which would very quickly burn a spot in the picture tube. So, when there is no input signal, the spot killer kicks on and turns down the beam.

Start by checking the power supply voltages at the game board and on the ARII board.

Thanks for that wealth of info. But I do own a multimeter. But for as where to test things that's like giving a 3rd grader a hs math book and saying....and go. I'm just lost...but willing to learn

I tested MH conversion pcb and boom fires right up. So the problem is with my space duel pcb. I will start with repeating roms.
Would a SD and MH pcb pull different amount of volts and that's why one is failing and one is not?

Major Havoc and Space Duel have different pinouts. Is there an adapter board in there to get Major Havoc to work in the Space Duel cabinet, or was it rewired?

At work now ill enjoy this novel with a beer tonight thank you. I'm going to assume my pcb is dead. Unless it runs on a different voltage. Then the major havoc pcb. But I've had them both working in there with in the last month. So...ill reset roms and cross fingers

I finally had a chance to unsocket all chips and I cleaned them by sticking them in the end of a eraser. Well I got the Damn pcb to work. I feel like a tech wizard right now and that couldnt be farther from the truth. But I'm happy and saved 100 bucks. For a new pcb. Thanks for all your replys

Glad you could get it working!

It's a great machine. I love mine.
