hey everyone, i was googling last week or so for repro space duel side art and found these 2 blog entries
http://www.rotheblog.com/2008/03/classic-arcade-games/vectorizing-atari-space-duel-sideart/
http://www.rotheblog.com/2008/04/classic-arcade-games/new-space-duel-sideart-progress/

i emailed the person who is doing the vectors of the art and i just got a reply today

Sorry for the late answer.

regqrding the space duel side art, I have to say that
unfortunatly with the scans I got it was quite impossible to
stich them and have the side art correctly reconstitued.

so I gave back, holding the current vector trace I've done, in
the hope that some news scans will pops out.
sorry for that

can you scan you cab ?? having some more sources will be
helpfull.

regards

Eric
im not able to scan mine but i figured i would post here hoping maybe there is someone here who can scan their side art and can send the scans to him and if he can get it vectorized we can get repro side art if anyone is up to the challenge just send him an email, you can find it in those blogs, thanks for looking and take care

I have a Gravitar here with mint sideart, i hope to use for repro someday. I know, not the same, but same cab!

Strange I emailed Eric about a month ago on this to see what scans he was missing and never heard anything back.
Ill email him again to see if he can finish the vectoring I could print this.

I might be able to help. How does one scan the side of a cabinet? I have a pretty good flatbed scanner. Would high res pictures in good light work?

I was going to scan my side art as it's real nice, but I don't know what software to use to stitch it together. I also don't know how to vectorize it.

if you can get a clean stiched version, I'll be more than happy to start the
tracing again.

idealy, for the space duel side art, I would ask for the whole
side art scanning.

they was so much distortions on the set of scan I got, that I
don't trust it as acurate.

stiching may be quite picky, I usualy use photoshop and or illsutrator in order to stich the scans by hand

regarding vectorisation, I don't want to sound rude, but if you "don't know how to vectorize" DON'T try with space duel side art. you will spend a lot of time without significant results and you will be realy disapointed.

Is someone seriously considering reproing Space Duel artwork? It seems to be one of those cabinets that is almost always in great condition, and usually sells for barely more than the value of the monitor. I'd love to have one, but it just doesn't seem like a very popular restoration candidate. Am I wrong about this?

Why not ask atariscott if you can borrow the original films?
