Hey all!

I've just posted my Atari Space Duel Restoration video on my YouTube channel. It was a Street Fighter II conversion and required just about everything to get it back up and running. If you know my videos, you know I like to have fun with these projects and the videos are pretty light and easy to watch. Have a great 4th of July weekend and I hope you enjoy!

I don't believe most collectors would be so dedicated to restore a Space Duel that was so abused.
So much had to be done. Very nice job. There's a special place in Heaven for you and Cindy. :)
I didn't specifically thank you but obviously your collective knowledge on here of all things vector was extremely valuable. Always appreciate that. Andy's hooked me up with some things over the years (and on this project) so he got a little extra glory :)

I did have someone point out to me not to use a screwdriver to discharge vector monitors and I forgot to mention using the HV probe on standard ones. Too used to the WG6100 self discharging and just needing to remove whatever little bit is left, and it had been a long time since I restored my Asteroids. Although I'm still not sure if it's really a problem or a theoretical one.

Also found out that I did need to hook up some auxiliary wiring to properly bench test the board, which is why it was fine in the cabinet after all my AR-II incidents. Other than that it was pretty straightforward and the first time I played my cabinet was the first time I ever played this game, period.

And Cindy is the best—she's the one always trying to get me to pick up these projects!

Talking about knowledge - how tall is the Tower of Power. Wowzers. LOL

6'10". He was a starting center at a Division 1 school (Eastern Illinois) for 4 years. My childhood dream was to play college basketball but I stopped growing at 6', so I had to live vicariously through him instead. We grew up together in this neighborhood and both moved back into it. He was a dunking machine—bent the rim at my parents' house dunking in 7th grade…

He's often my go-to when I need a hand :)

Thanks for posting. I remember when this machine came up for sale, and I thought for a minute about grabbing it. I already have a Space Duel, though, and that one seemed like way too much work. I'm glad you got it and brought it back. Great work, and great video. Your Tron video is one of my favorites out there.

I really liked the technique you used for repairing the bottom edges/corners. I've got a Tempest with similar damage, and I'm giving your method a go on it.

Every time I watch one of your videos, I think I am going to want to work on my games, but instead, I think about trying to grow banana trees.

I watched his QIX restoration and for a moment it inspired me to get up and complete my ZOOKEEPER restore that I started four years ago. LOL
But then I went back to repairing Sega XY boardsets. :)

That one banana tree was impressive though ... 🍌🍌🍌🍌🍌🍌🍌

Hahaha! I have plenty—and it does get addictive. I have bananas on one again this year :)

I think it works great and have never had an issue afterward. My only problem is I have to go borrow a bunch of the heavy duty clamps from my brother-in-law each time as I don't have my own set and that slows me down when I'm in "Go" mode :)

Lol. The Qix multiboard has Zookeeper on it but I have Qix running at 50hz and the monitor set up properly for that. If I switch to another game I have to adjust the monitor again, so I only played it once.

I have bananas again but on a short, stubby tree, so there's no rhyme or reason to it. Last year I sold all the baby trees that pop up from the root bulbs for charity and raised $1000 for our humane society, so they have more benefit than the actual fruit.

I think Cindy is obsessed with vector monitors now so I may have to finally go after a Star Wars. Right now we have Asteroids, Battlezone, Tempest, and the Space Duel. Since I only pick up cheap and sad games it's a tough hunt. Late last summer someone put one up on FB Marketplace for $200 about an hour and a half from me but it sold instantly…

I love the technique for cleaning out Cabs. A good vacuum, then compressed air to get the caked dust dirt off of inside of cabinet 👍 I can't stand working or looking at filth. Free Fast and Effective. Cant beeat the price. It's always that last bit of dirt dust that's a letdown when opening a cabinet and showing your work.
Nothing like a Factory Fresh look, If Possible.

Thanks for posting this video. Purchased some clamps today, and putting in an order for some Bondo products, then I too am going to give your bottom-edge repair techniques a whirl on my recent Space Duel pickup.

Have fun and hope it works out! I'm knee deep in a Night Driver restore right now…tomorrow's the day to put everything back together :)

Hope this isn't too much of a thread hijack. It seems that 3M has discontinued their Bondo Professional High Bond filler. What would be the preferred substitute?

I think they rebranded it as "Bondo Fast Dry Filler". That's what I used on my last project and it seems like the same stuff.
