hello everyone im trying to trouble shoot my space duel game which you can find info in my other thread here http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=122236 so far heres the problems i know about, the screen will need to be replace cause of the answer from 7146aaron thanks again for the answer
That game does not look too bad. The dot is a phosphor burn. The Phosphor coating on the inside of the tube is burnt off because the game was left on when there was a monitor problem causing the beam to concentrait in that area. The tube may still work but it will not display any part of the image in the burnt spot.

also only one player works without the screen hooked up, i have not yet been able to get the 2nd player to work, i have fixed the coin mec to let coins go through the 2nd slot but i dont think its working, i know there is a small plastic piece that is missing on the coin mec but that does not seem to cause any problems as its missing from the first coin slot and that one works,

so if anyone has any ideas i can try i look forward to your replys :)

Are you talking about the left side controls not working? Not sure what you mean by second player. Will it not start a two player game? Depending on how it's set up for credit freeplay etc. You will have to coin up enough creds, then use the select button to pick a 1 player, or 2 player game from the menu. A little difficult if you can't see the menu.

I'd fix your 6100 chassis, so you can see what you are doing, worry about replacing the tube later.

will the screen still work even with the burn? i found what looks like a cap kit dont know if that will help or not, but i hope to take out the screen and everything tomorrow after i get off work and before i go to school so i can get a closer look at it

It will work, you will just have a black dot in the center that will not display anything in that area.

Depending on the condition of the chassis you may need just a cap kit, and you might need transistors, and maybe a flyback. At the very least it will need a cap kit. Bob Roberts sells them.

At the very least when you are done you will have a working chassis, and then later you can look for a decent tube. They aren't cheap.

ok i took a look at the screen today and found that the burning smell is coming from one of 2 places havent really tracked to the exact spot but im getting close
its either coming from here

or here, also this area makes a buzzing/humming sound when the screen is plugged in

question about the fly back, when i looked at the rubber part on the back of the screen is that supposed to move or feel tight against the screen?

If you are referring to the suction cup looking thing, it will move if you move the wire attached to it.

As for the buzzing sound, it's hard to say what that is without actually hearing it. These monitors do make some noise (mostly the deflection). But if you hear what sounds like a High voltage arc, (hard to describe) and smell a distinct Ozone smell you may have a cracked flyback.

You'll need to pull the HV cage out and inspect the parts.

Don't forget to discharge the tube first.

i will be ordering a hv probe on wednesday and a desoldering station aswell to help with that and how much i have left maybe a lv2000

well i got my desolder tool and i ordered a lv2000 and i just got done taking the monitor apart and i can tell someone has tried to fix this monitor before as it was once in a tempest, on the board where the flyback i think its called the hv cage correct me if im wrong, but on the bottom there is what looks like scorch marks and even a lead for one of the caps is still kinda long, whoever did this did not do a very good job at all,

i will update later with pictures

Luke I got to thinking about your 2 player problem. SD has a one player mode only. On the 4 pin dip at location p10/11 make sure switch 2 off.

will do will post back when i check it in another hour or so, thanks!

i got my lv2000 in the mail today and got the 2 wires and 2 of the 3 leads solder into the board im just having trouble getting the last one, but hopefully i can get it, i also have to try and find my volt meter to set it correctly

now that i got my monitor working is there anything else on the space duel i should rebuild or replace, i think i may have a problem with the sound cause sometimes when a ship dies i get a big thing of static for sound
