I finally got to play an Asteroids Deluxe this weekend. It rocks, I like it much better than the older original. My question, is space duel that good too? Is it better or worse?

I had about an hour total on Space Duel up at Videotopia a few months ago and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it!

I like the game play of AD better.... and I am a sucker for black light 3-D backdrops...

However... since you can play Space Duel co-op or competitively, it usually gets more play in the game room....

I like my Space Duel better than AD, you have the 2 player at the same time option, plus I like the colors and different shapes. Great gameplay...

I have Space Duel, Asteroids, and Asteroids Deluxe. I like Space Duel the best, but my only issue with Space Duel is there is no background sound (or whatever you call it) in SD... like Asteroids and AD has. It would have been so cool to hear that familiar sound in SD.

my vote goes to AD. The difficulty ramps up quick and the gameplay seems faster? I can't get enough of it when I go over to my friend's house. Bought an antiglare kit in anticipation of finding a nice one.

asteroids = boring.. Shoot rocks hunt saucers.. Hyperspace sucks.
asteroids deluxe = 3d blacklight homing crystals and shields. improvement.
space duel = color asteroids with 1 or 2 player and/or linked. Great game!

I have go with Space Duel being better that Asteroids or Asteroids Deluxe. They all have their place and are fun games, but as others have said the multi-player is very fun. Also, a single player controlling both ships is my probably my favorite mode. It allows massive destruction and the sound to back it up with the 4 speakers. :cool2:

Asteroids Deluxe anti-glare kit?

Bought an antiglare kit in anticipation of finding a nice one.

I've got an AD that's in an environment in which it's suffering from glare. In lieu of the proper kit, I thought about using a brace to bend a piece of perforated metal to form a marquee bracket at a suitable angle, and some wood to replicate the original kit's wood blocks, but if I were to do such a thing, I can't see the resulting viewing angle working with the original front plexi; the monitor would be far too visible.

(It's been a very long time since I've seen the insides of a cabinet with one of these installed, and my memory is foggy.)

Do you know whether the asteroids deluxe anti-glare kit requires a new front plexi, or if it re-uses the old one in some clever configuration that I didn't think of?

I'm not sure if the plexi was reused with differnt brackets or what. It seems like I saw where the blocks are reused and flipped upside down from their original position or something like that. Anyway, Tokenseller on here is selling a bunch of NOS anti-glare kit bezels.

Here is a picture of one. He was only asking $40 for them which seems like a great deal for a NOS bezel kit.

Sweet! Thanks for the pointer... (And PM sent!)

For the record, that's definitely a different piece of plexiglass from the original. The one in my original is flat and also shorter than the one shown.

It looks like Atari used the original artwork on a slightly larger piece of plexi, and then bent the plexi at the bottom, and then riveted/screwed in the top grille. The extra inch or two of black plexiglass at the bottom, plus the bend, solves the problem I would have encountered had I tried to re-use the original and build the rest of the parts by hand.
