Hi;
I have a SD that when fired up, does nothing but light the select and start LEDs on the CP (they remain constantly lit).
The spot killer remains lit and then quickly blinks every 2 seconds(approx).

When I place the game in test, the "inputs" all make sounds as they are supposed to but there is no display, spot killer is on (steady).

All voltages are good from the cab and I have +5vdc. +15vdc and -15vdc on the PCB, (LED is lit).

I replaced the CPU with a known-good and still NADA.

Any pointers would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Jeff

If you remove chip L5 (7442) and fit a socket. Place the chip back in the socket with pin 1 bent outwards (so that it doesn't go into the socket) if you can then power up the game and play blind you know you have a problem in the Vector generator.

Hi;
Thanks for the help!
Yes, I have a logic probe and I'm not too bad with it. I also just picked up a CAT Box that I was planning on learning how to use (eventually) but I just don't have the time for the learning curve with my 3 little ones running around. But if the need be, I could bribe my wife to get them out of the house for a couple of hours.......

By lifting that leg, what would I be doing that would let the game play blind?
Thanks
Jeff

I was thinking about that but did not want to damage the replacemnet.....
But considering that all the voltages are correct, I think I will give it a shot.
Thanks

Update:
I replaced the AVG with the FPGA replacement and the game comes up now but I am getting strange vectors during game play.
I get the attract display, then the HS table and during the HS display, the lower scores disappar the flash back....
Something strange is going on, is there any reason to think the the replacement is causing this strange behavior?
I'll take a video and post the link for those who might be interested.
Thanks again for the assistance.

Has the 6100 been tuned up???

UPDATE:
I initially used my test monitor and then as a matter of convenience, I used my SD cab as a testing platform, so the monitor can be ruled out.

Yesterday, I was able to place the game in test and there were no signs of errors. I was also able to play a game as well.

Today, I attempted to place the game in test and received no response, the game stayed in attract.....

I then attempted to play a game, I coined it up using the service button and the game went into, "select" and then failed and erased the credit and returned to the attract screen. When I tried again, the service button would not coin the game and neither did the coin chute microswitch.

At this point, when powered up, the attract screen comes up (with errors - see link) then starts to spaz and then the display goes blank, the two LED buttons light, the game resets and starts again......

Obviously there is something amiss, could this all be caused by the replacement AVG or is there something else going on?

Thanks again for your help
Jeff

I kinda remember reading somewhere that not all replacement AVG's are compatible with all the Atari color vectors, am I recalling this correctly?
Thanks

IIRC the issues with SD and the replacment AVG had to do with some versions of SD having faster vector RAM. Do you have another AVG chip to swap out to see if this is the issue. Maybe somebody can lend you one?

BINGO!
That was it.

I pulled an AVG from another working PCB and got game.

Anyway, I attached a pic of the replacement AVG that

DOES NOT WORK

in the Space Duel PCB for anyone else that might be working on a similar problem...

Thanks again..
Jeff
