Space Duel Cocktail Control Panel Overlay and Underlay: I recreated them!

Hey everyone, just picked up a Space Duel Cocktail machine today, just the cab none of the guts and decided that this will be my first restored/dedicated cab. It's just too cool to not leave it original.

Anyways, I was pulling it apart today to get the metal parts ready for powder coating and realized how crappy the CPO on it was. I looked around the net for about an hour trying to find replicas, NOS, etc. and couldn't find one. So I figured... F' it, I'll photoshop one.

Using the actual CP from the machine I pulled out the tape measure and went to work. Take a look, let me know what you think!

Tomorrow, I tackle the glass overlay part. That should be fun...

Looks good to me! It's amazing how a new control panel overlay can really add that finishing touch to a cab.

Keep us updated on the restore!

Ok, fixed the Underlay to include the Game Select / Start. I think its done. I am going to print it in BW tomorrow at staples and check the fitment. I think it should be really good! The best part of the underlay, the Photoshop files is 977MB! Nice!

Nice work. I'd try and find an owners manual or look for a jpg of the actual Space Duel text from the web and Photoshop it to your underlay. I use to own a SD cocktail, looks pretty good. Can you vectorize the file at all?

The text is accurate, I have a scan of the original underlay. The only differences are the actual letters for the "space duel". Atari used a funky "space" font that I just couldn't find a replacement for, so I improvised and "updated" it a bit. I think it's a minor difference but it looks good :)

As far as vectorizing the file, I probably could if I knew how to use my copy of illustrator better. However, I have never really used it much and I have used the crap out PS so that's why I did it in PS.

Hi Jasen,
Do you still have the Space Duel cocktail control panel overlay that you made? If so it would be very much appreciated if you could send me a link where I could download it from the cloud? Please let me know if that's possible. Or perhaps I could pay you to cover your costs to send it on DVD?

Cheers,
Rat

Rat,

Unfortunately, I don't have the file any longer. It seems that in my move to a couple new computers along the way since 2010 I have lost it in the ether.
