My Space Duel is blowing fuse F2 and I cant figure out why. It powers the game board and probably other things. Any ideas? Where should I start?

Disconnect J5 and see if still blows the fuse.

F2 is coming from the 27KuF Cap, so if it blows the fuse with J5 disconnected, then the chances are it's the cap or the CR1.

If it doesn't blow, then you need to check the coin door, as it appears to go to pin 6 on the coin door connector. Pin 6 looks like it's the Lock Out coils.

I am assuming J5 is on the monitor chassis? Or elsewhere?

No, J5 is the big connector (15 pin) on the PS that all the wires come out of and go to the ARII, Coin Door, etc...

If you look on Sheet 2B of the Schematics:

http://arcarc.xmission.com/PDF_Arcade_Atari_Kee/Space_Duel/Space_Duel_SP-181_2nd_Printing.pdf

You'll see F2 sits between the Big Blue and the 15 pin Connector, Pin 1 (10.6VDC).

If you then go to sheet 2A, you'll see that Pin 1 of that connector then goes to the Coin Door, the Coin Counter and pin E on the PCB.

So the things that could cause F2 to blow are:

Lockout Coils
Coin Counter
The PCB

So you're going to want to eliminate each one as a possibility by leaving each one unplugged and testing. Then plugging each one back in at a time until you find out what causes the fuse to blow.

To make it easier to test the PS, you just unplug J5 first. If it works then you plug J5 back in, and unplug the Coin Door, the Coin Counter and the PCB.

Try again and if nothing blows, then plug in the Coin Door.

Try again and if nothing blows, then plug in the Coin Counter.

Try again and if nothing blows, then plug in the PCB.

If it's the Lockout Coils, I would just disconnect them and zip tie them open if you machine uses coins/tokens to play.

The thing that confuses me is that it worked fine until I took out the power supply and cleaned it. I didnt change anything or get anything wet and I am certain I hooked everything up correctly. Is it possible that its just a coincidence that big blue or the rec went bad?
