Hi all,

I'm planning on moving the games around in my designated arcade room to be more space-optimal. One of the things I'm going to do is look into Google Sketchup as a tool to lay things out.

However, one of the questions I have is for those of you that have a row of machines and then another row of machines facing in behind where the players stand. How much room do you leave for players, assuming that there may be times when someone is playing a game and immediately behind them may be someone playing another game?

The picture below summarizes my distance question:

Any help or guidance from those with similar setups is appreciated.

Thanks,
Greg

it matters on the games you have and sizes of them..

Lets say you have a simpsons 4 player cab? You really have too have room for 4 people playing it.

I can have my rows really tight becouse most of the time it's just me and the game room.

The rows the classic arcades from the 80's where really tight with games lined up.

Your bigger games where lined up at the end of the rows.

i would move the top cabinets against the top wall, you could get 2 or 4 up there and then offset the games in the middle of the room so you don't have to worry about playing back to back with anyone...you could also look at putting in a divider wall in the center of the room which would allow you to offset the games and it would not look odd at all....plus it gives you a place to run your electrical stuff and you can put some signs/artwork up on above the games...would look cool...better than just an empty room i think?

I would say at least 4 feet and 5 or 6 if you can swing it.

Really? I was thinking 3-3.5 feet ought to do it. Haven't ever had any fat people over to play... :) I'm 6'3" and about 190lbs...very little fat on me either... :)

Thanks for the input, I'll measure my space. I may have to eliminate one of the double rows in the center and just go with one.

As far as room for people playing, I've got a couple of 2-players (Space Duel, Toobin'), but everything else is strictly single-player.

Most of the time it'll be just a small handful of players in there.

3 feet is a yard stick...get one or a spare piece of wood around that length and give it a shot and see what you think.

I would say at least 4 feet as well. You will have people walking between them, too, so you have to count that in.
