So I picked up a dedicated Space ace that was complete except the monitor and NTSC card

I purchased a reproduction NTSC card and installed a 4900 with the proper wiring for both. It's currently using an LDP-2000 and hi-tech conversion card.

I hooked everything up and while I can play a game and I can hear the direction beeps fine, the sound is too low. (Actually the startup beeps are extremely loud, but I don't think there is a way to adjust it) If I turn the volume knobs up, I still only faintly hear the dialog.

It's been a long time since I've owned a Space ace.

Thanks

The original RCA plugs for the audio connection to the player are a common failure point.

Check for continuity from the plug tips to the volume pots. It should be zero ohms, but chances are, the wire is broken inside the cable and there will be some resistance. It doesn't usually happen on both plugs at the same time, but who knows.

The pots are 10K. Check the resistance from the plug tip the the main board pins 20 (L) and 24 (R). They should vary from 0-10K as you turn the pot.

R21 is 510 ohms. If you want to lower the beep volume, change R21 to something lower, like 470 or 330 ohms.
