I have a 1979 Asteroids that is having some issues with the video. After much reading, I decided to start pulling the chips to clean the legs and reseat. From research, it looked like maybe I was having problems with the Z drive. The unit would play fine, show the asteroids and audio was great except the ship was just a very bright dot and it was hard to see the gunfire. I played with the brightness and contrast also.

I pulled the N/P3 Vector ROM chip, cleaned it and reinserted it. I switched the unit on and realized I had put the chip in backwards from its original orientation. The chip got very hot in the 3 seconds it took me to realize what I had done and remove power. I reinserted the chip into the board correctly and the machine is pretty much dead. The monitor is dead and the speakers have a "lump lump lump" sound that continues on forever. Now, I need to replace this ROM before I can get the unit back to where it was in troubleshooting. Any good place to source these ROMS? It is a 12-pin and has on top

All this ROM, EEPROM, IC lingo is fairly new to me and I'm not really sure what to ask for when ordering. I saw that Bob Roberts is no longer taking new orders and having trouble finding any other websites with references like his.

Thanks for any help!

i believe you can replace it with a 2716 eprom chip but you will need to have it programmmed from rom version 2 files 035127-02 np3. a simple operation if you have a burner and the chips are available from ebay
