I have been searching for black semi gloss melamine sheeting and I'm not finding what I need. I want to redo the sides of my Galaga upright cabinet before I apply new artwork. The closest I have found is 24" x 96" rolls for about $35. I need appx 34" x 70" for each side and a bit for the front kick panel.

Let me know if you have a good source please.

It would have to be some sort of laminate... real melamine doesn't come in sheets as it is bonded to the substrate under high pressure as part of the manufacturing process of melamine / particle board sheets. Adhesive vinyl, even though not as durable... is probably the closest thing you will get to a melamine finish.

info

Thanks for the info.

The sheeting I found is listed as black melamine iron on sheeting. I don't want to use vinyl... I'd rather go for laminate then if I have to.

my local home depot sells 4' x 8' sheets of black formica laminate for appx $40

they also have white and a variety of fake stone looking stuff for countertops

Rolls

It would be nice to find a roll of iron sheeting. I think the countertop type laminate in the home improvement stores will be a bit thick. I might have to go there if I can't find a good source. Googling for it is not helpful.

I'm actually finding it frustrating to look for this.... it should be easy. All I want are some websites with the right product and dimensions. Please?

Have you ever heard of vertical grade laminate? It's thinner. I would personally use black vinyl.

no go

...and just like I mentioned none of these sites sell to consumers or actually list the types of products I'm looking for. They are commercial links: they want to sell 1000 square feet, they only have wood grain stuff or stone, yada yada yada. Someone on KLOV must have a source they have used with a good link and a name.

I may just repair what I have.

This is the closest item so far: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=260-031

It needs to be wider and actually in stock.

What are you talking about, sir? I clicked on countertop materials, then WilsonArt. The sponsored link at the top was this site, which sells to the public. I selected black, matte, 1/32 inch, and they sell 4x8 sheets. Not cheap, but there you go:

I get vertical grade laminate locally at any of the cabinet shops. I say cabinet shop...as in a place that sells supplies to cabinet builders. There's probably 20 or better in Louisville. They sell cabinet building tools, high end plywoods, partical board, melanine board, laminate, etc. I believe a sheet of 4' x 8' vertical grade cast me $20-30.

Parts Express is GREAT. I have ordered many a speaker building part. That said, the vinyl laminate they sell is NOT suitable for game restoration. It's thin and not as durable as you'd probably like.

that stuff they sell as 'laminate' is just shelf paper.. poop.

i have bought the melamine sheeting, particle board core, and it's a bitch to get a nice edge on it, it chips really easy. I was even using a compression bit.

use a straight flute compression and it'll cut razor sharp.

the cabinet guy i use told me the other day he has some sheets in his storage just to get them out he only wants 10$ a sheet! hopefully i can grab 20 or so sheets.
