Is there an official name for the connectors used for yokes, degauss, and neck board ground on monitor tubes?

And does anyone know a source for use with tube swaps?

Try and use the ones from the swapped tube.. If they don't fit, cut off the ones from the burnt tube and splice them on.. That's what I do :)

Those are no longer made, and you will be hard pressed to find new ones.

Dang, I was afraid of that. Fortunately, I have been saving a few here and there. I guess I'll go out and buy some butt connectors (ha) and start splicing.

Don't bother with butt connectors - they're generally unreliable. Your best bet is to do a pigtail splice. It's a stronger connection, and looks cleaner.

Here's an instructable on how to do the pigtail splice:

http://www.instructables.com/id/Master-a-perfect-inline-wire-splice-everytime/

update: just gave that a shot. Dang, it's strong, and very clean. I need to go out an buy some new colors of heatshrink tubing. Thanks for the tip!

But it's not nearly as much fun to type "pigtail splice"

I believe I have found a source for these but I am not sure of the pin diameter. Anybody have the diameter and pin spacing?

Spacing no clue, but the pin diameter I believe is .156 for the yoke and degauss and .100 for the neck board

10mm (0.394") is the spacing of the wider gap, 8mm (0.314") is the smaller gaps on the 4 pin yoke header
10mm is the spacing of the degauss 2 pin header

Pin Diameter is 2.35mm (0.093") with vernier calipers - both the above

:)

Computer monitors are a good source...they often have the ones found on the arcade monitors. For some reason TVs tend to use the smaller white plugs

For splicing the connector onto yokes I found using the insulated crimp pigtails like they sell for doing car stereo harnesses work good!

These things are evil.

They make messy connections, they're unreliable, and they're just asking to get caught on something. Oh, they might be passable if you're doing a couple wires, but even then, avoid them. Just twist the wires together and solder them! It's really easy, and saves you from having to buy funny little crimpy things.

Having fixed a Star Wars where someone extended the monitor harness with these things (that's right, two per wire, 15 wires, a massive MESS of horrible connections just to add one foot of wire to the harness) I never want to see them near an arcade game ever again.

I couldn't agree more.

but when your out of shrink wrap these do work. (i wouldn't put them in my game).

i use to swear by those evil things tho (when i installed stereo's bitd), until i learned to solder and found shrink wrap.

Found them.
"2.35mm Power Connectors". Still made by my connector source. The manufacturer calls them their "LV" series (not sure why). I'll stock up on them but it may be a few months - the manufacturer requires $2K minimum buy so I need to combine with other connectors.

Dezbaz measurements helped greatly.
Close to 0.093" (2.35mm) pin size. First and second pin is always spaced at 10mm, remaining pins are on 8mm centers. Available in 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 pin connectors.

ah yea i ment to add.

it's odd that there isn't a source for these as the last samsung lcd tv i fixed definitely had a single pin and 2 pin like in your picture.

someplace has to sell them.

Yeah, I agree. They were used on almost all CRT monitors up until the end....what, around 2009.

Ed (GPE).....I'd say.......stock 1, 3, 2, and 4 pin version.....with 2's and 4's being the most commonly used in monitors. Oh yeah, and female pins (male headers would be nice, too:D).

I agree with the gray connector in that picture (the one with the green wire) but the other connector in that picture is not the same.

+1 for grabbing these from computer monitors. If you have access to CRT computer monitors getting trashed, that's the best place to find these connectors.

Also, on the Star Wars extension cable...what was going on there? Were they just trying to get more cable slack to hook up a Wells Gardner 6100? If so, I make those extension cables for that:

No idea. There was a 6100 installed in the cabinet, and the wiring harness leading to it was extended by cutting the wires and adding in (all red) wire with those cruddy crimp connectors.

Yeah, I mean, anyone can make extension cables, apparently the OP that fixed it back in the day didn't want to, or didn't have the connectors on hand, or something. Lots of bad repairs were made to keep these games in service. Really, there's no real problem with cutting and extending the wires, he just did it in the most ass way possible. I fixed it up with proper solder joints and shrink tubing, and gee, now I don't intermittently lose colors! Imagine that.

As for the original topic of the yoke connectors, I haven't actually run into a situation yet where I'd have to buy any - I always just desolder and save the harnesses from the TV/junk yokes I don't use, and if I need to change the connector on a yoke, I just replace the harness. That way there's no cutting and splicing :)

Ed, please be sure to let us know when you get them in stock.

FYI -- I now stock these 2.35mm connectors.
They can be found here:

Edit -- oops, these are called 2.35mm power connectors... not 2.36mm.
Although they are called 2.35mm... they are actually 2.34mm in diameter.
Note - there are other variations out there that I do not yet carry. The ones I have are 10mm from pin 1 to pin 2 and 8mm between subsequent pins.
There is also a variation that is 8mm from pin 1 to pin 2 and 6 mm between subsequent pins. I don't have these ones yet.
