Problem: crystal clear, loud sound to begin with. Then, in the middle of a game, or in between game, sound cuts out completely. There's no gradual degradation at all - one minute, it's perfect, the next, silence.

I'll be checking connections and connectors and will report back; does anyone else have similar sound troubles with their Omega Race?

I'm not sure about Omega Race specifically, but I'd look for something overheated on the sound board, like an output amplifier or something. Of course an oscilloscope would be nice so you can trace where you have audio signal and where it's lost. A can of freeze spray might help too.

Have you tried messing with the volume pots to see if they are dirty?

Yup - I'm gonna clean stuff / futz with stuff for starters.

I was playing it this evening, and had good sound. Then, my game ended - I put in my initials. As soon as the machine accepted the initials, I heard a very faint "pop" come from the speakers (or one of them). No more sound after that.

I'll see if the same thing happens with the sound today.

I also am getting ahold of a working daughterboard; maybe a swap will help.
