I have a Spider-Man cab that is missing sounds and some sounds that don't sound like they should. I know nothing of this board. Anything I should be looking for or anywhere I should be looking? It's definitely not cab wiring, I put another board in there and sound is fine.

A little inspiring dancing spidey bumpage.

I have a multimeter. Didn't see any caps that looked bad but I know that doesn't mean much. I have an idea where the audio section is but I'm not positive. Guess it's time to invest in a logic probe. Wasn't sure if these Sega boards are prone for audio failures. Reseating everything didn't do anything.

make sure you clean the legs of the chips with some fine grit sand paper (gently), and use canned air to blow out the sockets. wish i could help you but my spiderman cab was converted to AvP

A couple of things spring to mind.

1) The game is a stereo output game, but you will only get one channel out via the JAMMA harness. Its possible that some sounds are entirely on the right channel and if this is not wired (via the separate the output on the board) then they will be missing. See if there is a test menu option to set the game for Mono (if you only have the JAMMA loom connected ) - there might be an option for mono, or there might not.

2) Look at the back of the board on the ROM board, there are dozens of blue jumpers. These set the data and address lines for the ROM types installed for that specific game. These often fall off which would blow holes in some of the game data. Clearly the game code and gfx are ok but a single missing one in the audio ROM path will screw things up. Compare your board with the one in the photo and see if you have all the jumpers present and that they are in the right place (Take a photo of your board before you start moving things around - theres a slight chance that there were different versions and where your jumpers are might be correct for your board - they will effect the game code ROMs, as well as the gfx and sound roms so if you stir them up without knowing how to get back you can end up with a board that wont even boot - hence the need for a photo where things are now. If you have a jumper location that is missing a jumper and there is one in that photo then you have almost certainly lost one, as far as I know there should be no empty jumper locations.

3) Check the three capacitors in the corners of the ROM board are still there, they are often knocked off boards and if 2 or 3 are missing then odd things can occur due to voltage instability, would probably affect the game itself but its not impossible.

4) Check the temperature of the amp heatsink after the board has been running for 10 mins, it should be cool or warm. Let me know if its bloody hot.

5) Beyond that you are left with reseating ROMs carefully, reseating the jumpers isnt a bad idea either, just make sure they go back on the same two pins they came from.

Haven't taken the board out yet but all three caps are still in place and the heat sink stays cool. It doesn't look like there is a MONO setting in the test menus. Next steps soon...

Ok, so I have checked my board against the pic. All jumpers are the same. I have pulled them and reset them. Pulled out all the sound IC's, cleaned the legs and reseated them. Guessing my next step is to have new IC's burned and shotgun them all?

Ok, so got my IC's in a while ago and have just now been able to put them in. No change in my sound. I'll upload a vid of the sounds later tonight.

Bringing this thread back from the dead. Dug this out and replaced 90% of the caps in the sound section. On the off chance that one of these is bad I checked them all. This one is bad. What kind of capacitor is this?
