Sound is screwed up

Fairly recently, the sound on my Time Soldiers machine has been screwing up. Here is what is happening:

Basically, every sound works fine except for the background music. As soon as the music starts playing, a VERY loud garbled sound comes out of the speaker. When the music stops, the loud garbled sound stops as well.

At first, I thought this was a problem with the board. However, the sound worked 100% when I plugged the board into my Assault cabinet. So what's the deal?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to sell this thing so I can have room for another game.

If the rest of the sounds work, except messed up background music, then the cabinet and wiring are fine. If it works in another cab, then the board is probably fine... so my guess is your power supply needs to be adjusted/replaced. I'd check the +5V at the board and adjust to about 5.1V.

Thanks! I figured it could not be the board, but I was not sure if the problem was with the wiring, speakers, or power supply. I should be able to check up on the issue tomorrow. I'll post back here with an update.

yeah if its an adjustable power supply it could be the prob.adjust it to the right voltage.sometimes you need to go higher

Ok, I fell like a total newb. I opened up the game to check the power supply and adjust the voltage. That is when I realized I had no clue on how to adjust the voltage.

So I guess that brings me to my next (and terribly newbie) questioned: How do you adjust the voltage at the power supply? Sorry for my cluelessness, but I really am learning more bit by bit.

It'll be a small knob, like seen at the top of the power supply in this pic: http://lizardlickamusements.com/images/parts/power_supply.jpg .

Cool, thanks! It was kinda hard to see on my power supply. It's in the same place as the one in your pic but is recessed behind the metal cage. It's one of those knobs where you need a screwdriver turn it.

I should be able to adjust it once I get home. I'll post back with the results.

Ok, here is my update:

I tried adjusting the voltage just as you said. Sadly, nothing changed :( The sound is still very garbled. Hmmm... anyone know what is up?

Well... it's not _supposed_ to adjust the sound... it adjusts the voltage. Make sure you measure the +5V as you adjust it, and set it to +5.1V at the board. If you just turn it up/down, you're likely going to fry something. I don't know what else it could be if it works fine in another cab though... unless the power supply is just bad, or maybe the edge connector needs cleaning.

My bad, I don't know why I said sound. I tried adjusting the voltage to +5.1, and got no change. Hmm... I'll try some simple stuff like cleaning the edge conector when I get home. Thanks for all the help!

similar prob

Im having a similar problem,.only instead of sound,.it is color.
I play my MK in its cab and its dull.
I play the MK in another cab it is beautiful,.but it scrolls.
I put it back in its MK cab and its fine but dull/colorless (not enough reds/pinks...)
But if i put say a Double Dragon in the MK cab,.THE COLOR IS GREAT!!!
i dont get it!!
driving me crazy.
The sound is bad in either cabinet,.so sound wise,.my prob is the PCB,..
but colorwise,.i get mixed results in diff cabs.
PM me if anyone has a clue please..
thnx!
---Also has 3 failed Roms. 2 of these failed roms are not present on the board (normal?)
but the 3rd bad ROM,.UC8 is there.
Could UC8 be responsible for color schemes?? If so why is it great in the Final Fight cab?????????????

Have you tried adjusting the volume? sometimes a dirty volume pot can causes problems.

ArcadeDad79, your problem is not similar, make a new thread in the monitor section, please don't hijack threads.

The +12 might be off. Isn't that the voltage require for sound? I looked briefly but couldn't find a manual or schematic for Time Soldiers. There may be a +12 test point on the board that you can check.
