Hi all:

I recently purchased and am working on a 1992 Data East Star Wars machine. When powering on the machine, I get the display version number on the display, as well as hear the boot up sound "May the force be with you." However, then I get nothing further on the display and no more sounds. The CPU appears to boot normally. The game plays fine mechanically, but I have no sound and nothing on the display. I have replaced all fuses, as well as all EPROMs with the latest version. Any ideas before I pull the boards and take a look for any solder issues?

Many thanks,
Greg

I restored one and replaced sound ROM as well when I did ahwile back.

Did you do the mod of cutting the resistor, since if I remember correctly, the new chips are placed differently or you use two instead of three? Something like that...

Lemme see if I can find it for you...

Thanks for that. Yes, I saw that and this was what I thought the problem was. That was not the issue, however. I haven't had time to pull the boards yet. Will get to it this week and let you know if I figure out what it is.

The display board and the sound board each have a processor that will boot and issue the appropriate commands at boot, either the basic display version screen, or, "may the force be with you" from the sound board.

What is sounds like is that these two boards are not getting signals from the CPU board once the CPU has booted. I would check that you have the proper cables installed in the proper locations. These cables can be turned around and plugged in incorrectly very easily. Make sure that the red wire is next to the pin 1 of the board connector on each end of the cable, AND make sure that the proper cable goes to the proper board.
