Saw today and bought (not picked up yet) a Soul Calibur 3 Arcade Edition cabinet, and works fine, inside the cabinet was a Soul Calibur DVD (no dongle) so does SC3 use the same dongle as SC2? seems like was a dedicated SC2 but the person bought the SC3 from Namco cybercade? or something like that? anyway question does SC2 and SC3 use the same dongle?

No. Chances are the disk is from the original SC2 version. There was an upgrade that used only a new disk so when they changed it to SC3 they probably yanked the dongle and the updated cd for SC2.

ah okay so SC3 can run using the SC2 dongle? would make sense as the SC2 disc is in a case and the machine is running SC3

If there's no dongle inside, or an SCII, it sounds like it's a version of SC3 that does not need a dongle... didn't know there was, but I know Namco got a lot of flak from OPS about having to keep up with the dongles all the time, repair/replacement costs, etc. so most later games run without one.

No games work with other dongles. Period. If it's running with SCII dongle in, that's because it isn't even checking for a dongle, not because SCIII is amazingly able to leech off of an SCII dongle.

Does the SC2 DVD run when you place it into the system 246 with the SC2 dongle. There are two guys I know who can erase the information on the dongle and re-programme it. Could be that the SC2 dongle was erased and re-programmed with SC3 data. I've got the latest version of SC3 and that came with its own dongle. Both the DVD and the dongle are uniquely bar-coded, so I know they pair for definite. I haven't tried the SC3 DVD without the dongle - there was no point. I haven't heard of any system 246 DVDs running without dongles. My system 256 is still using dongles to play the games! Can't see NAMCO changing their mind for 246 and then changing back again for 256, somehow.
