I installed a battery for highscores to my Spy Hunter today, and after installing it I gave it a test play. There is a loose wire next to the Absolute position board that must have come apart in the process. The car doesn't move until you connect it. When you DO connect it, however, what happens on screen is exactly opposite to the turns you made on the wheel. So a right turn equates to a left turn, and vice-verse.

The potentiometer is fine, and the other bundle of wires, the one that registers the potentiometer, is also working fine. I don't see any other loose wires, and I just cleaned the boards. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Post a picture that's clear enough to identify the wire and the hookup to the abs pos board.

And what exactly do you mean the car doesn't move? As in doesn't move left-right or doesn't move at all when you press the gas? You can also look in the setup screen and report whether the steering wheel value is changing and the gas pedal number changing when the wire is disconnected.

My camera isn't working terribly well, so here's a schematic instead. The wire I highlighted is the one that's loose.

To answer your question, when I said the car doesn't move, it doesn't accelerate.

Here's what the connectors should look like going into that board. Do yours look like this?

When you go to the user input screen and press the gas pedal up and down with the wire in place what values do you get on that screen?

I know you can't 'see' the car steer when it isn't accelerating, but I don't think it would do that either.

The loose wire looks like a ground wire between the two pots. Shoot- it could even be the supply wire and the two outside wires be the ground.

You should be able to put it into test mode, but not sure you can get to the adjustment screen without using the steering wheel. I think you use the thumb buttons and van button to navigate.

You only need the thumb buttons. I went to the player input screen and was getting normal wheel values. Pushing the pedal doesn't change the value for the gas.

When the wheel is centered, the pedal is 12 hex

when the wheel is right 7, the pedal is 22 hex

when the wheel is left 7, the pedal is 04 hex

My connector isn't the original one, as the wires load into the top and not the side. When I put in the wire that is loose, it looks like it does in the picture demogo provided as far as sequence goes.

Keeping in mind the steering wheel values are still opposite.

It's pretty interesting to play, oddly enough. I almost feel the need to record what it looks like :)

and it worked fine before you installed the battery and the wire came loose?

Okay, I fixed the awkward acceleration thing where the pedal value changes when you turn the wheel. At this point, the wheel is stuck on left 8 on the player input screen. The acceleration is back to normal now.

Wire for wheel control came loose, maybe ground or maybe signal. Replace pot maybe.

He should be able to check for all of that with a DMM while he turns the wheel. He should get a constantly and smoothly changing value as he turns the wheel, but he'll need to check it before it arrives at the abs pos board.

OP, what did you change to fix the gas pedal value fluctuating?

I'm pretty certain it is not the pot, because I checked it for one of my previous problems where the car would only move to the left. Last time I checked I was getting smooth values to either side of the multimeter.

As for the pedal, I went through to make sure all the other wires on that connector were in place, and one of the other wires was a bit loose also. I set it into the connector further and the issue with the pedal went away.

if your getting smooth values on the test screen, but the steering is honestly going the wrong direction, swap the gray-green, and orange-green wires on the pot and it'll steer the right way.
