Sony's livestreaming the event

This is marble Madness

Mark Cerny on board for PS4?! Knack looks interesting but not as a next gen title.

Blockbuster and Gamestop farewell

This spells death to Gamestop. Looks like Sony will be selling all previous games from a sort of virtual library in the near future. Games instantly.

Drive club

I'm not a simulation fan but for the shear detail of emulated carbon fiber I may pick up Drive Club.

So does this mean the complete end of all physical media on the system? I missed the live stream and it hasn't shown a second time yet.

I read the article and it's capablities are pretty awesome however i dont like Play station,i have a PS3 but we just use it for netflix and Gruray(dispicable me refrence) but i have a bunch of games for it,just prefer the Xbox. One thing i can say about a PS is they are beast's! I bought mine used from a coworker 3 years ago,one of the fat ones and ive been thru 5 maybe 6 xbox's in that time.

Hardware seems impressive, although I think I will be disabling all the social features as soon as I turn it on.

What did they reveal? A dev kit...running tech demo's.

I r not impressed, certainly not impressed with the use of a Jaguar core(AMDs version of the Intel Atom Processor)

I watched the entire thing, and I think they knocked it out of the park. I just hope they follow through with the Vita remote play.

I didn't see the video, but I did see some of the game demos. Honestly, while nifty, I didn't really see anything beyond what the PS3 can already do (or has already done).

A lot of people were impressed by WatchDogs, and the story does seem interesting, but as far as the gameplay is concerned, it looks like Assassins Creed with a Ratchet and Clank style interface. Nothing really beyond what the PS3 can do.

As far as the social features... I am not interested in those at all, period. I don't use Facebook or Twitter (I'm beginning to think I am the only one left who doesn't!). I have no interest in uploading my latest gaming accomplishments to Facebook, nor to Tweet what I'm currently playing, and the more they push this kind of thing, the more I am convinced that the PS4 just isn't for me... I am just not their target audience anymore.

In closing, I was one of the first adopters for the PS3. The technical jump from the PS2 to the PS3 was quite large, and I was actually excited about the console -- not so with the PS4.
When I saw tech demos for the PS3, I had to pick my jaw up off of the floor... I didn't have to do that this time. It was more like "Oh yeah, that looks like this other game I already have."

I know that it's very early, but SONY was the one who was already hyping it. I just didn't have the same feeling of the wow-factor that I did before.
I'm still quite happy with my PS3, and the PS4 seems to be moving in a different direction than I would like.

When I think of social gaming, I still think of people in the same room; not Facebook and Twitter; and while I like the idea of requiring real names for on-line matches, what is that going to do to my current PSN account? How will they verify my name? Will PSN Plus be a requirement now? I'm just not seeing the need to "upgrade", and the future of PSN is up in the air right now.

Didn't watch any of this, but I hope they wouldn't be that dumb so soon after the PSP Go.

I find it a bit disconcerting that the two most anticipated games (Watchdogs and Destiny) will both be available on current gen hardware.

I think they're moving in the right direction with the developer friendly hardware, but the titles they showed last night aren't enough to sell me on it yet.

It does have a blu-ray drive and will play used games, but it sounds like they're really going to push the digital/cloud aspects heavily.

If they're not blocking used games, I may very well wind up getting one...but not at launch.
Still rumoured that MS will be blocking used games, we'll have to wait for the verdict on that, but it's a total deal breaker for me as I refuse to buy new games at $60-$70 a pop when it's such a gamble today if the game has been horridly overhyped.

Ps4

I will not be buying a PS4. I saw nothing that was truly impressive. I see no graphical leaps or innovations. I dislike the social network aspect of the PS4. I was really hoping for Oculus Rift support or a hint to VR games but sadly I got nothing. I MS sees the potential for VR games and the exciting technology.

I am relieved at what I have been reading post-event:
Used games are still okay, it will be up to publishers to add restrictions as they see fit.
It does not have to be online all the time.
BC will be streamed, people seem happy with this option (I'm still a physical media diehard).
The younger games like facebook integration and all the social things.
The games looked fine, not too much past the ps3 though.
The controller looks nice enough, and I like the Vita integration since I own one.

My plan is to see what Microsoft does, and then I will select one probably around the time Fallout 4 comes out. So far, I am leaning towards Sony due to my experience with the 360 and the PS3 this past(?) generation.

I still have a 'pile of shame' in the form of a backlog to play until I can save up the money. Time for me to stay off of ebay and get to saving!

I haven't seen all the stats yet(and I missed the live stream) but when someone said x86 chip/architecture I basically started relating it to my personal theory of device hackers:

The X86 instruction set is very well known so I give it about six months before the hardware is 100% hacked. The last one to use this was the Xbox 1(Pentium 3 733 megahertz) witch was the most hacker prone game system ever. Now this is just a preliminary prediction...
