Any idea how one goes about identifying a Sony Trinitron tube?

The only tags on the tube say "SONY TRINITRON - SDP MADE IN THE USA" and "DYNAMO SERIAL NUMBER xxxx". Of course the Dynamo serial number has nothing to do with it as it matches the serial on the Sharp Image chassis.

The monitor came out of a SF: Rush cabinet.

It's EGA.

I'm looking for a suitable replacement tube. It appears to be a flat-style CRT. I was hoping to pick up a Sony Trinitron 27" TV locally and swapping the tubes... any suggestions?

I know you're a visual bunch... some photos... any help would be appreciated.

Using a mirror I found another tag that says 27" RCA JS on the chassis... does that help ID what Tube I need?

No idea, Frizz. That's way newer than anything I've ever worked on/owned. There's no tube type number that I see, so I can't even look it up in my B&K manual. Personally, I'd probably just try the tube from an appropriately sized TV set.

That is my guess too. The best I've been able to find when I google 27" RCA JS is a listing for a chassis that looks like mine that says it's model number is 27 PHILLIPS JS/DS?

I've always been under the impression that the Trinitron tubes couldn't be used in arcades. Looks like a Sharp Image chassis?

I'd say look for a Trinitron TV manual and try to part it that way...

Yeah, it's a Sharp Image SI 629 I believe... it looks like the SI629 on Bobs page minus the parts at the top left (on the riser board)...mine is just unpopulated.

I found a serial number on the yoke...

8-451-486-11
V9M1P

...if you google the top number you get a bit of info. It's a Sony yoke...

EDIT:

Alright...here's the skinny...

If I can find a Sony KV27S42 color television, I could swap the tube/yoke right in... no convergence BS needed!

Unfortunately there aren't any on Ebay or CL right now.

:(

Is there any electronics recycling places near you? In Washington we have several places you can drop off electronics for free. I've worked with one of them to allow me to take random 19"tv's for tube swaps and I reinstall the old tube back in the TV not hooked up since it will just be recycled.

If there are places maybe pay them a visit and tell them what you need and they may be able to help you. If you tell them to call if they get any Sony 27" TV's in maybe you'll get lucky. You can also check pawn shops and thrift stores. - Barry
