I just got back from Shanghai and bought a set of 15 DVDs with tons of PSP games in ISO / CSo format for my wife's PSP while I was there.

They included some software but I can't make heads or tails out of it.

Can anyone tell me how to get these games on her PSP and run them and save me a bunch of time? Ideally I'd like some sort of app with a selection menu.

Thanks,

Bill

There are plenty of sites on the net to find such information. This shouldn't be one of them.

At least you paid for pirated games? No wait, that's worse :p

will work with all versions of original PSP Phat or Slim, need to use the CFW, and depending on model, various methods, pandora battery, software hacks etc, not sure whats allowed on here in terms of CFW but post up your PSP model and current f/w???? and can point you in the right direction to various forums etc

To my knowledge, there are no official rules against it, though the majority of the community here is against piracy in general. However, I see no problem with general discussion or even links to custom firmwares, etc so long as there are no steps listed or links specific to loading ISOs. Homebrew is a common topic here, so we're all good in that regard ;)

In short: homebrew = good, piracy = bad.

I've run in to a few models of the 2000 that won't work with the CFW... it's a certain board revision they did later on, apparently... not sure what it is, or if it ever got fixed... although I've had at least one PSP not take any kind of CFW without crashing

I have a 1000 series that I originally used Lumines on to get CFW back in the day, a 2000 series that I just used a pandora on, both 1000 and 2000 are now running the 5.55 GEN D, and the 3000 can run a software hack that then runs CFW but only stays in memory so if you do a full power off, would need to reapply the hack

oops - Please remove this post. I was tired when I posted and wasn't thinking. I will re-ask my question in a more appropriate manner.

Best,

No worries. There's potential for decent conversation at this point. Just try to keep anything specific to pirating to a minimum. I think you should still be able to edit your original post, if you want to, though I'm not worried about it.

Overall, I'm not that concerned, I just don't want the thread to turn into a lengthy explanation on how to pirate games, that's all. There's a wealth of knowledge on the subject out there. If anyone here wants to share it, please do so via PM rather than linking things from here.

No joke! Pirating info is like porn...there's so much thrown out there that the stuff damn near finds you instead of the other way around.Btw,love the SF II you have Matt! I'm a tiny bit jealous! ^_^

^ This is correct, there are a couple motherboard versions of the 2000 and you can run home-brew on them by using a thing called chickhen, they are not fully mod-able at this time, all 1000 series are though and the psp go is well ....a whole nother story....

The chickhen thing can be done on the 3000 as well, to run homebrew... but I don't like the way it's applied... I think the battery is a much more failsafe... plus, my favorite part of having the modded PSP is the backups... I like buying games and leaving them sealed, downloading the iso and playing them... (yes, I own all the games... I don't really like pirating much anymore these days)

Very true, forgot about the 3000, had a friend who has one and wanted it modded, after showing him how to run the chickhen he wasn't really happy with it.
I generally rip the iso from the umd and run them from the memory stick as they load much faster and it's alot easier to carry more games on sticks vs umd's seeing as how we now have up to a 32gb stick if one was inclined to buy one...still too pricy for me at this point :)

since we're on the subject...I've been out of the PSP scene since about 2006, or around when the custom firmwares were first really hitting it big...I have 1000 model which is still on FW1.5 since all I really did on it was play homebrew.

Obviously there are quite a few games I never got to play, though I probably could have done so off the memory stick...just never felt like going to the trouble.

So my question is this, is it still possible to run recent UMD games as well as homebrew without any kind of hardware modification or additional purchase other than what I already have (the system obviously, and a reasonable sized pro duo)?

I really don't care enough to spend a lot of money on the damn thing or to do any physical modding. So really, I'm just curious to see if it might be worth pulling out of storage.

I've not really looked in to the 1.5 firmware much, although as far as I'm aware, with it that low, you can use a simple soft mod to upgrade it to a more current cfw.

on mine there is no hardware mod done on it. the only real hardware mod is a special battery called a pandora battery... and you only need it once. It's basically a regular battery with either two contacts inside it bridged, or a software "switch" sort of flashed to it.

what it does is, puts the PSP in "service mode" which reads directly from the memory card, bypassing all the security and firmware that is on the PSP, and also allows you to install any firmware to the PSP directly.

I have never seen a physical mod, other than LEDs and a case transplant or two, nothing that affects the function.

Here's a link I found (not the method I've used, so not 100% if it works, although it makes sense):

seems a little overcomplicated though...

my prefered method is the pandora battery... since yours is 1.5 you can easily make one (and when you're done, unmake it)

Nice. That whole battery thing must have come about right around the time I stopped paying attention. I seem to recall there being some new battery hack back then, but never did any reading on it. That's pretty neat.

The whole PSP hacking community was really impressive back in the day. Watching it unfold from day one like I did was quite awesome. It always amazed me at how quickly one ot two people could foil something that that a major company worked so hard to prevent (though I still wonder if there might be some rouge developers in there that deliberately leave a hole or two knowing we'll find them).

Cracked me the fuck up mainly because SONY does nothing but piss me off. Actually, it was the way they handled the whole homebrew thing on the PSP along with their root kits, etc, that really made me hate them. Then again, since the "homebrew" scene was pretty much the same as the pirate scene, I guess I can't really blame them...

The PSP had so much potential... I remember when I first got one (within a week or two of launch) being amazed to play a game online, while on a handheld... I've never been a huge fan of the homebrew scene for some reason, but I do enjoy seeing people put stuff like Doom and other classics out for it.

as I stated earlier, my main (well, only really) reason for modding is so I can play my backups without messing around with the UMDs

the PSP Go is pretty much sony's answer to the modding scene... to my knowledge hasn't been hacked yet. I don't intend to buy one. Although I like carrying my games around on a memory card instead of the UMD, I still want a physical game... you know, for when the internets go down... </redneck paranoid accent>
