I've had a PSP since it came out. Got it as a birthday present from my wife and I've kept it in flawless shape as I think its a thing of beauty. Brought it on my WY trip and my oldest son kills the hard drive by messing repeatedly with the hold/power button. Only took him 4 days to kill it. How freaking annoying is that?

Anyone know if drives/MB's can be repaired or replaced?

Yes, they sure can. You can even order the parts and do it yourself if you are patient. Working on a psp takes a bit more fine motor control than working on 80s arcade equipment. :)

That's impressive. Especially considering that the Sony PSP doesn't have a hard drive.

All the parts in a PSP can be replaced. The older thick ones are easier to work on. Lots of tiny screws, but nothing scary. See if you can find another one with a busted screen and swap parts around.

I thought you meant that he raised his drink to honor it. "To dad's PSP! Salute."

Hehe. When I first read the title of the thread, I thouht he'd actually put the thing in a toaster, like a slice of bread (hey, it fits!).

Reminded me of the lady that put her PowerBook in the oven at 400 degrees for 20 minutes.

You know, it's too bad that it wasn't a PS3 with a bad hard drive. That you can change with a philips head screwdriver in about three minutes with an off-the-shelf SATA laptop drive.

If you try to power it up a couple tiems when the batteries fully dead, it'll make you reset the time/date... but all the rest of your stuff should still be on the memory card. At least that's been my experience with my PSP-3000.

The internal memory/drive wasn't added in until the PSPgo came out.

The PSP is just dead. It won't even turn on when plugged in directly. I can get the hold button to light up, so something is still kicking. I'll mess with it some more and see what I can do.

correct me if im wrong but isnt the hold button just a color that exposes, there isnt an actual light saying its on hold.

If there's any damage done it's probably just a broken on/off switch (does it feel a bit too loose?). About a $15 replacement, or you could have somebody fix it for you for probably about 40 including parts

You are correct on the hold button, my mistake. Amazingly I got the PSP to take a charge last night and it fired right up this morning. Not sure what the heck is up with it, but I will not be handing it to the 8yr old again anytime soon.
