Not sure if this ever got talked about here but a couple of years ago a new 3D version of Crazy Climber was made in Japan. It was later translated into Chinese and English - I found one place in Taiwan that sells them for $3800 (Wahlap Technologies). The control scheme is something quite different, turning CC into a physical game.

What do you guys think?

They should have used a couple of 360-degree joysticks which you push down on to establish grip, that might have made for some interesting gameplay.

What's the character supposed to be climbing the building for? To reach his crackpipe on the roof?

I always thought the building was on fire, just based on the Nichibutsu artwork. But your guy starts on the bottom floor, so that doesn't make any sense. Taito never had any reference to a fire on their cabs. Guy must just be a thrill seeker.

Well, there was a helicopter waiting for him on the roof, and it was the Nichibutsu building....perhaps he was a corporate spy working for Taito, stealing the code to their newest video games? A young Ed Dillinger?

You might be thinking of "Fire Trap", which is a lot like CC but involves a burning building.

I always thought "Crackhead Climber" would be a funny game parody of CC, if I had more ambition I'd make it with Gamemaker.

The flyer for CC has a building on fire in the background.

Has anyone checked out the Wii version? Guess it's Japan only, and no release planned for the US.

wikipedia says it's on the Virtual Console as well

wii version is different than that though

I found out about one company that carries it in Taiwan called Wahlap technologies - they distribute games in that country but they also are willing to ship internationally. Raw Thrills deals with them so they should be safe to deal with.

I have been considering importing one to my arcade one day, it's an amazing price but then I worry about parts and whether anyone here would bother to give it a try.

BTW - Thanks for posting that English vid 2084 - that's the first time I've seen it in English.

Ummm, It's pretty cool, I guess...
