i got a mario cab from 8bitnintendo last week and was all excited to get it working. i always recap monitors for my games and of course the damn flyback is shot. why cant it ever just be a cheap fix? sometimes the money going out just sucks it would be nice to fix a game with shit i have lying around just once. theres my rant for today

I will tell you the same thing I tell my own kids.
"You get nothing and like it."
and
"Take it!"

What you should be thankful for is the simple fact those friggin flybacks aren't $100 anymore.

What's really sad is I would say damn near every game I ever bought had monitor problems. Most people only dump the game when it goes down and their local rape-air shop throws them an outrageous repair quote so they dump it.

Sorry man. It's good that you got a Nintendo cab though. I know you were looking for one. I hope you can eventually get it all fixed up.

yep, ive got like 5 monitors that either have me stumped or at my breaking point trying to fix and im too stubborn to pay to have them fixed. and im running out of great monitors so its time to put my head down and fix the damn things

When I buy a game, I just automatically order a cap kit from Bob. All of them need it. I need to start buying games in bulk just to save on shipping for the kits.
I have never bought a game that didn't need some work. Someday, maybe I will have the money to spring for a mint game just to see what one looks like. :)

I agree - it sucks sometimes when you just want things to work for once. As far as o-scope and monitor repair, I just turned on my shop o-scope for the first time in maybe 8 months, and not for monitor repair. In fact I don't think I ever used one for monitor repair - a good meter and some reference materials (schematic, flow chart, etc) is really all you need most of the time.

Maybe you and I can get together in the next week or so and do some monitor work. I know I've got about 5 or 6 that need to be worked on.

I know how you feel. I'm working on this Asteroids cocktail. Recapped EVERYTHING(monitor, powersupply,PCB,reg board all of it), finally got the monitor working right, which was a pain. Thought I was in the clear, and now for some reason my asteroids board keeps resetting on me for no particular reason, usually after it's been on for 10 min or more and it wasn't even the original problem!!! Nothings grounded, it will just reset at odd times. Sometimes during a game, and sometimes just sitting there, no rhyme or reason.

I've gotten frustrated at that damn cab, I know it's a fun hobby but It's pissed me off, so it sits for now, until I tackle it again. It's been more pain then its worth.(at least that is how I feel right now, I've spent too much money and time, NOT to complete it...eventually...)

I have the solution, you need more spare parts laying around. I think all my parts take up more space than my actual games.
