Been messing around with some of my secret stash of Taito boards, thought this was kind of cool. It is a cool game, I've owned a couple in my time and regret selling them, but at least I still have a boardset.

The amazing thing is they both work! The other is for sale on our site (ducking for cover as it isn't cheap).

Great game! I haven't played the real thing since the 80's. Play it in MAME all the time, since it's as close as I'm gonna get.

...hmm. Sounds like a job for the ArcadeSD team. :D

EDIT: just checked that thread. Clay seems to think it's very doable.

It is the same hardware as Qix, Zoo Keeper, Electric Yo-Yo and Kram. I've actually owned all of the games at one point except for Kram.

The sound board is the same as Qix, but there is one IC that I think you need to remove (it is socketed). The rom board is the same large rom board as Qix and ZK, but you need the jumpers for ZK as they are larger roms (2732s). The jumpers can be made fairly easily so in theory you could convert a Qix board to Space Dungeon.

The one I'm selling has original roms and I believe the rom board is the original SD rom board, not sure about the sound, it may have come from a Qix set, but you can't really tell.

The video boards are the same and the biggest problem as so many are corroded.

Some day I'll write a nice FAQ on these games or something as they are very interesting.

Your post motivated me to dig through my stash of Qix and ZK hardware.. Looks like I've got more than enough extra parts to get a board set working, except the coin processor patch.. Is it the same as ZK? As in ROM 19? Or is a patch available online? Thanks!

Space Dungeon was one of my favorite games on the Atari 5200. The cartridge came with an adapter to hold both sticks. It was years after that before I saw an arcade version.

very rare Taito game to find all the parts to put one back together, would love to see someone doing it with some resto pics.

Actually it wasn't me who bought those boards. I've had these boards for a while, just got motivated to pull them out recently and work on them.

The SD coin bypass patch is here under "PCB Info":

Some other very good random tech info on the site as well.
