So ... I see all these cool threads where people are fabicating metal parts, entire wooden cabinets, plastic vacuum formed ABS parts, etc. All cool shit .... So ....

Where are all of our sheet metal workers?

I need something that is very simple to produce, yet I don't have any way to do it myself. I need a blank metal control panel for a Blast City cabinet.

It would be just like the ones you see here:

http://www.lizardlick.com/Control-Panels_c_140.html

Except that it would be completely bare ... I want to place my own joysticks and buttons and trackballs and spinners and whatever else I want to throw in there. But, in order to do that, I need a bare piece of metal to work with.

Anyone here can do this kind of work?

I'd be down for buying at least two of them and I know others would probably be game as well as this control panel fits a number of different "Candy" cabinets ...

I can do that. I would need a template to trace onto the blank sheet and then I can cut it with my plasma cutter. If you need any reinforcements, ribs or bends. I would need a sample to copy. If it is flat and the other parts are simply welded on; then I could take these pieces off of the old panel and reapply them to the new panel. Time and materials would be all I would require.

Sweet.

So if I was to take apart the one I have now and trace that to a piece of construction paper, would that work for a template?

And will the edges of the metal be nice and smooth? For some reason, when I heard the words plasma cutter I envisioned a sharp edge. Pardon my ignorance, I have never used a plasma cutter (though it sounds like fun) ...

From the pic; It does look like a flat panel. If that is what you need. just send me a light cardboard pattern. Possibly made from posterboard and I will cut it and dress the edges so they are smooth.

A plasma cutter is a high energy electric arc similar to what you see in the new car headlights.

Lizardlick will do this for you from what I recall, just contact them.

I contacted them about getting panels with a 2L8B Neo-Geo layout awhile back and he told me it was do-able.

FYI the thickness on these is 1/16" from what I recall.

Heres what I'm staring at now. This game's getting parted but I'd love to find a use for the cabinet, its just too nice to trash.

it looks simple enough and I have a sheetmetal shear and brake so I can curve it and cut it. I just need samples. What I don't know is if it is worthwhile as far as expense. What does Lizardlick charge for a panel?

The other panel is easy because it is flat and i can bang that out in a few minutes.

Just a panel. It's not on hinges, and I have latch hardware, I can make it work. But again, depends on expense. I can use this panel if need be, though I'd rather not.

I agree, and it looks to be in good shape. There seem to be plenty of converted Taito cabs out there. I had a grey one years ago that was converted to Alcon, but with a crappy translite type marquee and generic overlay.

What kind of brake do you have? Or more precisely, what gauge metal can you work with and the radii of the bends?

Thanks.

Looks like the ends are rolled over to give it a smooth edge.

A rough guess would be in the 30.00 range
