Some things you need... some things you need to want.

I needed to want this I guess.

Jameco 664 EPROM Programmer

It was at the last auction I went to... started bidding on it hoping to get it for the minimum bid ($10). Some one else bid $15, I bowed out... then someone stepped in and bid for me. ... so. yeah.

Anywho... seems to work, and it's generally just cool to have. It's old school, works, and just looks neat on my desk... what more could you want?

Anyone else just buy random crap for the geek factor?

I used to buy random stuff when I was younger. I had a few Betamax players, bunch of random computer parts, a few Laserdisc players, and probably a few more things I can't remember.

I'm just a sucker for oddball stuff like this. I mean... it had the original box and everything... it's really hard to pass that up. I left that auction with next to nothing, but still... I had to get SOMETHING. (photobooth, eprom programmer, remote volume for NSM juke, 16 locks)... it's a sickness.

I have an old set of plug-in FM intercoms with the original box. The box looks vintage 60's, the units look vintage 70's. Sometimes they actually work. I have them in my 2 arcade rooms, as the rooms are separated and about 35 feet away from each other now. I usually use the 'call' button to send Morse code, as it's hard to pick out many words on the garbled vocal interface. They look sweet as hell though and technically, they DO work.

I have this exact model:

We used to have some intercoms like that. Came with the house when we moved in when I was little. They still worked. We eventually took them down and put them in boxes when we got phones that did the same thing. ... I think they're still chilling over in storage.

No shit! I have the exact same intercoms, we used them when we were kids because my room and my sister's room were on the second floor and my parent's room was on the first floor at the other end of the house.
