Some sounds in Galaga high pitched.

Video should say it all... the sounds of the bug's ranks moving in and out is higher pitched than it should be (and INCREDIBLY annoying). I think the sound of your ship being taken in the tractor beam is high as well.

As best I can tell, every other sound in the game is correct (bonus stage musics, shots, etc etc)... just those 2 sounds are boo-boo'd as best I can tell. I've had the thing for a year'sh or so now, and it's finally irritated me enough to either strangle a puppy, or fix it... I'd rather just fix it.
 
I wonder if it's your sound chip that causing your issues? I really don't think it the amp section or the rest of the sounds would be off. The sound is triggered so the decoding should be ok.
 
Audio tone only tell you pulsing logic high and logic low.
with odd auido issues I tend to go with a scope

Actually, you can hear the differences when a circuit isn't acting right. Follow the sounds backwards from the 4066 at 3A and you'll hear it with the audio tones on that probe.

if you have a probe that generates the sound from the signals coming in you can use this method..
If you have a probe that is triggers a sound circuit from the signals coming in the tones sound the same..

Nothing like taking a pobe apart and say hey this one is a crappy designed one.
 
Fixed, bad PROM at 1D. Pulled one off of my non-working Galaga boards, and put it in, no more desire to strangle puppies.

 
A home brew one doesn't look as nice as a commerical one at least youy know how it is designed is and you can customize or fix it when it does break down.

I picked up a cheap little RadioShack logic probe from eBay. ... Not surprisingly, Radio Shack doesn't sell them anymore. I guess they were deemed "too useful". Anywho, paid about $5 for it or so and while I can't "hear" the sounds generated by the game through the probe, the pulses to change with respect to the frequency of the sounds... if that makes any sense. It only works with basic stuff like I was try'ng (unsuccessfully) to trace out some missing audio on my Crazy Kong boards. I can get a rough estimate of what's going on by listening to the change in the buzz/beep from the probe. It's only really useful on older machines... anything that uses fancier audio though, and the probe might as well be a wiener flavored lollipop.

But... she gets the simpler jobs done, most of the time.
