Some questions for Spray painting around SWCP sideart

I'm getting ready to fix up and repaint the edges around my Star Wars Cockpit sides. I plan to use Krylon fusion satin black in a shaker can for the paint. But first some questions:

1) Any suggestions for how many layers of newspaper to use to protect the sideart from over spray? Should I first mask it with plastic?

2) Spray indoors or out? Best way to prevent paint from going everwhere if indoors? Do you (a) not care, (b) set up hanging drop cloths, (c) do something else?

3) Is it safe to use a tack-cloth on sideart to remove any dust prior to masking it off?

4) any other words of advice, tips, tricks, etc?

THANKS!

Don't paint indoors.. that stuff's bad for you. and skip the krylon fusion paint, that's for plastic not wood. Use the rust oleum satin black in the spray can.

:)

1 layer of paper should be good. Just make sure you have no holes in it

Not indoors. Too many fumes and too much of a chance to get paint somewhere it shouldn't go. I do mine in the garage with the door open if you have that option.

I use these on all my cabs before painting, but haven't done any with the side art still in place. Just cover the art with the newspaper, and use the tack cloth on the area you will be painting.

OK. I was leaning outdoors anyway. I will just deal with falling leaves! ;)

As for fusion, I was under the impression that was the best paint as this will be applied to the edges around the game, which will be 99% original Atari vinyl and 1% bondo. Should I still use Rustoleum for that or is Krylon fusion better for that application?

Sounds like a good plan.

if you're painting over melamine with some edges you need to prime it so you can hide that anyway.. krylon fusion is for plastic, not melamine or vinyl and will look poopy on bondo.. you really do need to prime and sand to smooth the transition between vinyl and bondo.

Okay, prOk. Rustoleum + Primer it is. Thanks for the advice. Now, I hope I can return the case of Krylon fusion I had to buy from Sherwin Williams!
