I was wondering if anyone could help with some flipper issues. I have a tee'd off pinball that I believe i rebuilt the flippers, but can't remember. The game was on location and now the one flipper sticks up. It seems as though the electric supplied to that flipper stays on longer than it should. In contrast I have an x files that also has a sticky flipper. That one usually will come back down from a very slight vibration such as the other flipper being activated. Will a flipper rebuild fix the xfiles or should i try a new spring? Any suggestions on the teed off? thanks for the help guys

yes a flipper rebuild will fix 1 of your problems.i would take it apart no may get by with just a new coil sleve or cleaning it and the rod some times the rod get rust or a bure on it also check it out.as for the flipper staying on thats my guess the switch try cleaning it also.

More than likely the coil sleeve and plunger are gummed up. Just take them apart and clean with alcohol and inspect the bushing where the flipper goes through the playfield. The spring may be weak ,but springs should just be able to return the flippers to their normal position when the playfield is down.

The plunger may be mushroomed from hitting the coil stop, replace it or file the mushroming (is that a real word?) off and replace the coil sleeve.

First thing is to find out if the issues are "actually" mechanical...or electrical. When the flipper sticks up, kill the power. If the flipper stays up with no power, it's mechanical. This means something's getting stuck, binding, etc. Look for missing screws, loose screws, anything loose on the flipper assembly. Also, investigate the plunger for mushrooming...as already mentioned.

If the flipper drops as power is killed...it's electrical. I'd start by investigating the EOS switches, shitty soldering/wiring to the coil lugs, broken/loose coil diode, flipper button switches (maybe) sticking together.

After you clean the sleeve and rod, and check the back stop for any damage, another neat little treak is to take the rod and run it under a wire brush. Not a hand one, but one of the machine shop style that spins rapidly. This doesnt take any of the rod away, as the goal is to simply give it a very coarse dusting. Over time, the rod may become magnetized, which causes it to stay in place in the coil longer then you would like. However, its not really the rod, but all the crap stuck to the rod (metal shavings mostly).

Thanks for all in the info guys. I am currently building a work shop and those two issues are first to be fixed once the shop is done. I wanted to know what to look for before i get to the games. Thanks as soon as I crack them open I will update.
