some days you just cant get rid of a mortal kombat 2

Is it just me, or does the second picture look like it has the Mortal Kombat dragon in it?

Did I miss another thread about this cabinet? If not, please tell us (or post pics) with why it deserved to be burned?

Nah. This cab was from when i first got into the hobby. I met a guy i was buying machines from that had about 2 dozen gutted cabs he was sledge hammering apart. He told me i could have as many as i could haul for free. Being new and ultra optimistic, i thought i could save them all. After 4 months of these cabs sitting in a barn, we decided it was time to get drunk and immolate things. This cab started its life as a mk2, then at some point was turned into a konami bass fishing game. By the time i got it, it was just wood.

yup still wondering this, was it water damaged? saggy marquee?

Uh oh, cool pics but probably best to keep these things to yourself.

Personally I can understand, waste of time trying to get rid of a converted cab stripped to bare wood (you'd probably have to waste your own time trying to give it away), and not worth investing the time/money to restore (especially something as common and low val as a MK2).

Doesn't help that I don't give two shits about any MK title though. But those who do are about to come out of the woodwork in 3... 2... 1...

Rest easy guys. There was literally nothing of value/usable on this cab. All the original artwork had been painted over, and it was 100% empty. Just a garbage cab. I guess i dont know what else to do with a handful of half smashed gutted cabs. Not trying to upset anyone, i just thought it was really neat looking! Look how intense the flames got! And leaving a batman looking remains? And the top that seemed to somehow "melt" and not burn?! I dunno. I thought it was kinda cool.

I guess if nothing else its a stark reminder of the dangers of a house fire?

painted over sides/gutted cab means nothing, a lot of the fun is in stripping the paint and restoring a classic even if it's a MK or a crystal castles.

dude, there is no way i was ever going to build an mk2 from scratch with that shitty cab. that would cost me 10x what its worth. id have to find a cp, power supply, monitor, board, back board, marquee, all the little odds and ends it was missing, rewire the whole damn thing, spend HOURS taking the paint and konami fishing sticker off blah blah blah. i mean i guess i can see where your coming from KINDA, but im also into restoring old cars outside of this hobby. sometimes you just have to let one go, and realize that its way more trouble and money that it will ever be worth. if it was like an ultra rare car or something, meh...maybe it might be worth rebuilding from scratch. an mk2 cab? no. i already have 3 working games that are sitting in converted mk2 cabs. enough is enough!

my Killer Instinct was a painted over strip-paint-to-restore project. thank you for telling me my KI is nothing of value.

EDIT: picture goodness

i am seriously done defending a half smashed, once overed, twice fucked, trippled gutted ratty ass mk2 cab.

i have no doubt in my mind, that your starting cabinet was in 1000x better shape to start with than this was. i love love love what youve done, but that was some serious coinage right there, and it would cost me about the same just to get this one back to looking like normal shit.

I fail to see how "All the original artwork had been painted over, and it was 100% empty." translates to "half smashed, once overed, twice fucked, trippled gutted ratty ass mk2 cab"

I've replaced the JAMMA harness in my KI before. I've applied CP overlays before. I've bought marquees for all 4 MKs before. I've stripped a cab that was painted completely black before. and the biggest of all the accomplishments.. I removed a generic CP overlay off the KI AND didn't fuck up the original overlay in the process.

if it was in as horrible of condition as you claimed, then bravo to you for unleashing your inner pyro. if it was something that you could've at least dumped off on someone else to do all the things I outlined above, which could have taken like 2 days to do, then uh...

yeah, some things are better kept to yourself. if it was indeed the latter, what you have done is essentially slapped every member of this site in the face. even if it's "just an MK2", it doesn't matter.

I have a junk Popeye cab I bondo-ed a side on and never sanded it. the cab's not even complete. but I didn't throw it in the dumpster. I have a lot of other shit that's gone on the last 3 years since I got it, but I figure one day I'll find someone else that can do it justice. because HEY, I got 3 other cabs just like it now! LOL

I agree you can't save them all but you don't have to set them on fire.

and as a automotive person i would think you would value the challenge and fun of a good restore. how else do you learn?

this cab as i mentioned before...HAD A SLEDGE HAMMER TAKEN TO IT BEFORE I GOT IT! lol

you know what...my bad. i will just stop posting for a while lol.

I even refrained from the obligatory TOASTY! ok, im grounded. lol
