Hey everyone! I just purchased 3 cabinets (1-slot Neo Geo, Rastan, and Double Dragon) all non-working with various issues, and was wondering what I would need to buy to begin testing them? I poked around online and found some beginner guides, but figured this would be the best place to ask. I have always wanted to learn to repair arcade games so I hope to be doing this for a while and wanted to setup a test bench. I already have a various assortment of tools and am going to buy a voltimeter, but any advice you could throw my way would be greatly appreciated!

First..learn how to read electronic schematics.
Second .. buy a good multimeter .. learn how to operate it.
third get a soldering iron and practice soldering on a junk board.
Fourth..check your area and see if another KLOV member lives nearby..always a good thing to make new friends and learn from more experienced hobbyists.

Lastly.. always ask questions on this forum if you ever get stuck..no question is dumb.

If you can self teach yourself, Pick up an electronics basics book so you can tell what part might be have a problem and to learn the electronic terms so you can communicate to others what part you need.
Learn how to use a DMV, Logic probe and a scope so you can track down your problems.
Learn how to solder so you can replace those parts.

Do lots of reading on the top of this section the monitor section (the stickey). They have lost of good info...So much so they made them a stickey.

Local library usually has some good books on digital electronics if you want to start repair of the pcb's.
