Hello -

This unit is now sold.

Looking for input here, as I've held onto this item for a number of years and am really not sure the best thing to do with it. I purchased the NES Deluxe Set online years ago from a reputable collector, it was part of a bulk buy which got me most of my NES titles in my collection today. I have never opened anything inside of this box, and as you can see, it appears to be either never used or perhaps used once? I really don't know, I'm actually a little afraid to touch it. These photos are from the day I got it, I snapped the pics and then closed the box and it has been sitting in a closet with a box protector since. The NES console itself is the only item in the box that looked like it's even been touched. All baggies are neatly holding the items/wires and those NES black boxes look super clean.

So, the big question...what do I do with this thing? I would ideally like to sell it, but do I sell it as is? Do I try and open the game boxes carefully to see how good of condition the contents are? Selling on ebay is not what I want to do with this, as I feel like I'll be asking for trouble with this type of item. I've never seen one this minty and I feel like scammers would be all over it.

Let me know what you think! If you are interested in purchasing or trading for it, send me a note.

Maybe try and get it graded? Then possibly bring it to a retro gaming convention and maybe a buddy would let you put it up for sale at his booth?

More pics. My fear is that it may be used. If used even once, it can't be graded. I don't know if I want to go through the effort of sending it in, waiting for months, for them to just send it back and say it was used. It's so hard to tell...the console sure looks super clean too.

Maybe you can get a cheap little boroscope to stick inside and try to verify if the pins have any trace marks from a cartridge?

I have one of these that I got for my birthday in 1987.
Does the Console have a smooth exterior shell (or the orange peel texture that they added on later casing revisions)?

One item that I'm questioning is the "Control Deck Manual"...that's bagged up with the warranty cards, etc.
That looks like a later revision, possibly not original to the set.

The one that came with Deluxe Set just had a mainly black background with R.O.B. the Robot on it. Maybe it was swapped out at some point?

There are different revisions of the contents. What is included in my set is original but again if released later the contents would vary. Yours may be a test Rob set. If you look online you will see that it is based on serial numbers.

Ok so a quick update. I've had a few interested buyers on other platforms reach out, and I am considering selling as is. If I don't, the plan is to check the ROB for the film over his eyes. If still there, this indicates it is most likely brand new. I will also try to see if I can get a better look at the pins in the console to see if any signs of use at all. I'm not holding my breath, most likely I'll only be able to get premium CIB value for this one but we'll see.

It is a game system. Play it. Don't get it graded. I am very bitter about those grading things. It takes a perfectly working game someone can enjoy and then seals it up never to be used again. The person pays a bit to get it done too. What good is a game if you cant play it sometime? Everyone is free to do whatever obviously, just my 2 cents. I hate how the market is not flooded with grades games that people want $10k for when they made 2 million copies of it.

I fully intent to open everything of mine when I get around to it. Things can be played and still kept in excellent condition. You can get box protectors for console boxes and the game boxes. This ensures that they stay in great shape. I have all my books in archival bags and game boxes in these archival clear boxes.

^ THIS.

What good is grading a game? It's just another scam to tale money out of your wallet.

What's the point of owning a game in a box? You get to look at the box, but NOT play the game? Howzat work?

Sell it anywhere, take the money and invest it. You've already wasted enough time thinking about what to do.

If it were me, I'd join a couple NES collecting groups on Facebook and post it for sale there. Only accept F&F because obvious reasons.

There are some crazy NES collectors out there looking for something like this.

If you are looking for maximum profit, then just ask those same FB groups what it's worth. At the same time you get estimates, you will have people giving you offers.

I seem to at best break even or even lose money when I sell stuff in this hobby. I envy you guys that figure out how to make money at it. Lol

mine didn't, I looked years ago lol

I don't remember specifically when my dad bought my Deluxe Set, it was either late 1987 or early 1988.
Dang. I'm still searching the resale shops for a copy with the adapter. I would have assumed the console that shipped with the game would have had the adapter but maybe not
