FS Game: SOLD - Karate Champ $450 & Take Me - Price Reduced! $300

i know that the single player version did not share the same joysticks as even the cutouts on the cp were a different size and the mounting bolts do not line up. i believe i still have a pair of the original single player.
thanks

I'm not sure that's entirely true. I believe the control panel differences were attributed to the Japan made cabinets versus the Dynamo made ones (see Ataritoobin's comments below.)

I'm not sure there ever WAS a single player cabinet that survived testing. At least I'VE never seen one in the wild. Every dedicated cabinet I've ever seen has had 4 sticks on the control panel.

An old 1984 replay magazine article said that the first batch of cabinets were made in Japan by Data East (which have the 2 piece Data East coin door), and the later cabinets were made in the US by Dynamo.

There are also Data East ads stating that the "single player" version are field test only and accounted for, and only the "player vs. player" version is the only "legal" version released in the US.

That said, I don't believe one cabinet was specifically designed for one version over the other. In fact, I would guess the single player version should have only one set of joysticks.

Oddly, the version I grew up playing was the single player version - in the same city as Data East's US headquarters. I can't recall what the CPO looked like though, but I recall it having the standard over/under door which would make it the Dynamo cabinet.

I need a pair for my original still untapped single player control panel. If you ever sell those, let me know lol.

i had never seen one either until i went to pick up what i thought was a PVP karate champ. turned out it had just two joysticks(i had to remove the other cutouts which in actuality were just small indentations and i still needed to use a hole saw.) and still had the single player pcb (working) in it. sold the pcb for $125 here. in this pic of my karate champ you can see a second set of bolts not being utilized. those were layed out perfectly for the single player joysticks but would not fit the pvp joystick mounting holes or base. i had to retro fit the pvp joysticks to fit this cp. so they were real and made there way here. the pvp did not come out as early as the single player.

FYI, if they're the same as the PvP sticks, you can replace them with the Qbert grommets folks are selling (Twistywrist, etc), as they are the same size as pinball rubber bumpers (which is all I think those kits are).
