Starting to plan and track down parts for my Solar Quest. I haven't seen too much, but thought I'd ask; what's been reproed, if any, currently?

The two things I'd need:
- New side art
- Backdrop

The cabinet needs some work as well, has a bit of swelling and a couple damaged parts that need to be fixed. Nothing impossible, or super difficult; but if there's no template for a repro currently, this would make a good donor cab to do that. I wouldn't mind donating it to be reproed, as long as I get a cabinet back (with paying for materials, of course). Otherwise, if someone in the area (don't mind driving a bit) could help in copying this cab, it would be very appreciated. I don't have the tools/setup to copy a cabinet, but would love to learn and see how to copy one in person. I'm not in a rush to get this done, so time isn't really important; just want to have a plan in place and start on the small things.

Any other details on Solar Quest would be appreciated as well, mainly who fixes boardsets and monitors.

Bump.

Does anyone have files for the sideart and control panel? I'm planning on trying to repro them if no one has them, but could save some time if they're already out there. Haven't found much yet.

Did find an image for the backdrop, seems to be fairly simple to make just using a couple blacklight paints on a black card stock or something. Wouldn't be 100%, but it'd be better than nothing.

Also, throwing it out there again, that if anyone who repros cabinets wants to copy a solar quest; this would be a great donor cab to do so.

i've been able to fix my sound board and created my own backdrop. could use new art on the right side, if this is ever produced. it's a great game you don't often see.

Ohh.. I'd be down for a repro CPO. Probably one of the best Cinematronics
vectors they made. I get mine in about 10 days.. coming freight.

I sold mine too cheaply also... but it went to an appreciative loving home.
;-)
Yes it did! It's going to look awesome next to the Star Castle that I "picked up". Just have to pay back Adamzero and grab it from his place.

I'm going to attempt to repro the sideart and control panel overlay. Both are somewhat pealing on this cab, so I figure if I work slowly; I can get them off in one piece and scan/fix them up. After that, it's just finding someone to print them. Then just need to tackle the cabinet, and get the monitor/board repaired.....so yeah....not TOO much :/ It's going to be a fun project, thought. Really looking forward to getting it all fixed up and running. I've heard lots of people say it's a great game.

I cannot believe I never saw one back when it was new.
Such a good game. Seven different enemies. The ghost ship.
The survivors. The ever-stronger gravity of the sun. The NUKE
button and being able to control its detonation. The blacklight
backdrop. The bone-fracturing sound effects. It's one of the best.

Man, I really can't wait to get this going, lol. Star castle has some great sound too. It's going to be awesome having both next to eachother. I'm starting to like cinematronics more and more, lol.

Well, I've started to pull off the side art. It's coming off in one piece without too much problem, just very slowly. Spent about an hour today pulling it, and maybe got 15% done of only one side.

Guess that means I'm going to try to repro the art, and if the control panel comes off; I'll attempt at reproing that as well. Might need help once I have the art scanned to clean it up. It has the normal wear and tear, so it should just be touchups/alignments and maybe vectoring the file. Same would be needed for the control panel.

I'll post updates, and if it's looking like it's going well; I'll start an interest list for the reproed side art. The plan at this point is to probably have it done towards spring, since then it'll be warm enough to work on fixing the cabinet. Which means I can throw the art on after that.

I'd like to see some pictures of this cab once it's restored. Or a video or two. Even some in progress pictures would be nice.

Long story: When I was rebuilding my Armor Attack (another Cinematronics game), I bought an untested monitor from ebay since the original was gone. When I got it, it was from Solar Quest and had the variable intensity daughter card. Re-wiring it to work was no fun, and I ended up replacing most of the components on the monitor board. At first power up, I then found out the tube was shot, with a spiderweb pattern. Thankfully new 19VAR4 tubes were available back then, but cost a fortune...$180! Anyhow, after all that I found the Armor Attack game PCB was dead too, and that had to go off to Canada to get fixed (was testing it with a Star Castle PCB). The game is still in my collection after all of this, thankfully. Anyhow, I still feel like a part of my game is tied to Solar Quest.

Got my Solar Quest today! Dam this is a kick ass game. Destined to become one of my favorites I think.

I have a spare CP with art I can probably donate to the cause as long as these are going to get done.

Nice lineup! I can't wait til my Star Castle and Solar Quest are next to each other.

I have a file for the left sideart currently. I'm working with a friend and another person on the forums to try to get it vectored. The art on my control panel is also starting to come off, so I believe with some work I should be able to remove it in one piece and scan it. However, if you're able to get a scan of your control panel art, that's all I'd be looking for; don't think a panel would need to be donated, but it's much appreciated. I do want to get both the sideart and control panel reproed, it's just a matter of getting the art vectored or in a ready enough state to take to a printer.

If the need/want is out there as well, my bezel and marquee are in good shape and I could look at doing those as well. However, the main focus for now is the sideart and control panel.

I'm also missing the backdrop, but I was going to experiment with some blacklight paint and see what I can come up with. I have a file for the backdrop, so I know what it's supposed to look like. If I just used blacklight paint on some black cardstock/cardboard, it'd be close but not 100% reproed; but it'd at least give the same effect when playing.

Also, throwing it out there, if someone knows how to vector art from a jpg; and wants to help get this reproduced; please contact me. I am horrible with graphics programs for doing this type of work. So far from what I've heard (from both people that I asked), this probably won't be "easy". I'd really like to get this side art vectored, and then move to the control panel; so it can ultimately be run for people that need them.

Allen, you want to sell anymore vectors? ;) lol. I'd love to finish off the Atari collection, only need: LL, SD, SW, ESB. I'd also love to add a couple more cinematronics, and maybe a Space Fury and/or Tac Scan.

I found these on my art Hdd.
I have Bezel, Marquee, and Sideart files. All are rough and would need to be redone.

Jake, that's the same file I have for the sideart. I think I have the bezel and marquee as well, but the main one I'm after currently is control panel. I've sent the sideart to a couple people to see if it can be vectored, and I'm still looking for someone to do that. Again, if anyone has the ability/time, please contact me.

So small update. I finally ordered a hand scanner to scan in the side art and control panel. Hopefully they turn out well. It's the same scanner that RidicRick25 picked up and posted a thread about it; and his scans seemed to look really good.

It's not a lot of progress, but it's something. Slowly moving along among my many other projects.

Also, how do I disconnect the control panel on this thing?? I can't figure out how to remove the ribbon cable to take off the entire cp. Any help would be appreciated.
