How long before you just push it out to the curb, text them a picture, and tell them they should probably hurry up?

Especially if you told them the reason you're selling is for more space.

I finally worked things out, but I'm curious what everyone else's thoughts are.

2 weeks...no more no less

Depends on communication. When people have told me they really want a game and need X amount of time to either get to me or get a shipper or get the cash, I'm usually pretty lenient. We're a community and I'd rather wait for someone who really cares about a cab to get it than try to push it out the door to a flipper who will part it out. But if I've been understanding and worked with you and then you ghost me well after the time we agreed on? Nothing pisses me off more, that game's going, going, gone. Even then I give a couple weeks to make sure I don't get a "oh my god I'm so sorry my wife died" text and if not, away it goes, sorry dude.

Yeah, this is weeks after our agreed upon time, and every time I message/text it's a 24-48 hour wait for a one line reply that doesn't actually move things forward..

Yeah, no, fuck that. You agreed upon a time, you were super lenient... if they're rude enough to take advantage beyond that, game over, IMO. I know you said you already resolved it, but you would be 100% right to move on well before this given the situation as you described. That's downright insulting to you on their part.

A 24-48 hour wait time for a response is fine. However, if the responses themselves are useless fluff, just wasting your time... that's a problem.

It's up to you to decide if you want to communicate your frustrations. Never assume the two of you are on the same page. A simple phone call, instead of a text, can sometimes fix that.

Outline your requirements (and consequences) (otherwise known as Terms and Conditions) in your original post.

Example:
Game must be paid for and picked up within 7 days. If unpaid / picked up after 7 days, any money paid will be refunded less $85 / day storage fees, and the game put back on the market.

The pick up time is negotiable by 1 week only. I need this game gone, which is why the price is where it is at. If you are not a serious buyer who can meet this requirement, please don't bid.

Everything up front. It may not sell as fast, but when it does sell, it will generally get gone faster.

I was free storage for a SI for about 3 months before the guy came to pick it up. The only reason I sold the game was because I didn't want to put it in storage while I did my basement. The guy knew this and still dragged his feet, and I wound up lugging the game to a storage unit. I wasn't expecting extra loot for the delay and storage, but at least an apology for being a douche. I got nothing.

Have they paid?

Nevermind. I see it's already resolved.

The key is discussing this issue BEFORE the deal is made. If I think there is going to be a delay I will usually talk about the pickup time with the buyer/seller. More often than not there's some travel involved for somebody and you just need to talk through the expectations. When I'm buying I won't ask a seller to hold a game without a deposit and I'll communicate with them in good faith about the pickup time. I try to be as specific as possible. If the seller wants an agreement that I loose the deposit and he can re-sell if I don't pick up the game by X date then that's fine. Vise-versa for selling.

Yeah, he had paid a deposit ~3 weeks before-hand, and the rest on our agreed upon a pick-up date in cash in person. But he'd only brought the car and told me he would get it resolved quickly... Which dragged on as he tried to rope other people into picking it up or storing it for him.

His travel is only about an hour and ten or so.

As for the phone call commenter: in this case I couldn't call the guy because all I have is FB Messenger and email as forms of communication.

I was very clear in my need to have the game gone in a timely manner from day 1 of contact, it just fell on deaf ears.

All a situation like this needs is proper and firm communication.

Talk to the guy, and make it clear that you needed it gone. Listen to what he says (in case he has some legit reasons or issues going on), and work with him if needed. And if you don't get a reply, give him a warning saying you'll refund his payment in X days/hours/etc and sell it elsewhere (and then do it, if needed).

The key is to not be a dick about it, just firm and clear, and be willing to refund the deal if needed. The problem is too many people immediately jump to dick mode in these situations, and just escalate and make things worse (making more headache for themselves in the process).
