So, who needs "WHITE" offset Nintendo Molding?

I just measured my Particle Board DK Jr and it has those same exact measurements :)

EDIT: the total width is actually slightly more than 5/8". It's more like 11/16". The other 2 measurements are correct according to my cab though.

Can someone else please verify this also.

Here's what I measured with my calipers just now: 15/64", 21/64", and 21/32". While molding made to your measurements would be great, according to my calipers it wouldn't be "perfect", assuming my cab is a good specimen. I tried to make sure I checked an area that had no discernible damage. My cab has no discernible swelling either. The cab is in quite good condition other than the t-molding.

Hope that helps and I'm really excited to see this project happening. Thanks Bill!

Out of curiosity, what cab is that?

Bill,
I'd like take an order for one cab even though I don't have any off set style cabs..you know murphy's law is that I will come across one and not have the t-molding so put me down for an order maybe two..

So, you'd get 18' of 5/8" offset molding and 2' of 15mm "TRUE-FLAT" molding for your CP's.

Hey I'm a bit confused by this. It sounds like the molding for the control panel is different to the rest of the cabinet? My control panel slot is exactly the same measurements as the rest of the cabinet slot, so shouldn't it use the same molding and vice versa?

You make it sound like the cab gets 5/8" of non flat molding, but the control panel gets 15mm (why not call it 5/8"?) of "TRUE FLAT".

Sorry, just want to be sure this is the right molding for me before I order.

Thanks!

It is plywood and has an offset slot and is 15mm (5/8") in width. The offset measurements are the same as the cabinet slot.

Dont know if thats normal or not. Some other particle board nintendo cab owners will need to chime in

Here are pics of my control panel molding:

Notice the molding is curved and obviously not original. It looks like it is centered molding that had the edge trimmed (I didnt install this).

My offset particle board DK has a plywood cp and is therefore not offset. Of course it's possible this cp didn't originally come with this cab, so apocalypto might be the "original"/"correct" scenario for offset cabs. So I guess you should offer an option for the cp's strip - either offset or true-flat.

That seems to make sense.

This is speculation, but I suspect all particle cabs originally came with plywood control panels that had an offset molding slot to match the cab slot.

If I'm not mistaken, all repro control panels in plywood come with a centered slot to allow for current centered molding.

It is indeed possible my cab setup is original/correct (and i'm surely not the only one).

If we could get a molding set in offset for both cab and cp and a set in offset and centered for repro cp's that would be awesome.

or.... I guess I could just get 20' and cut off 2' for my control panel...right?

Just feel free to correct me seeing I have no offset molding cabinets in my possession. I'm glad to hear that your control panel is 5/8 and has an offset slot!!! If it's more common than not I'd probably just offer it as 20' offset t-molding and for the rare fews that may have a centered slot and require 15mm t-molding for their CP's can just contact me and I'll make sure you have enough 15mm molding for their CP's.

Thanks...

audiomidiman: I received a sample of 5/8" molding from t-molding.com today and installed it in my offset plywood cab. What's strange is it fit flush on one side and left a very slight gap on the other side. I have a feeling the offset plywood cabs are not 'exactly' 5/8", they are very slightly wider than that.

To quote a previous poster:

I don't have calipers, but mine is also very slightly wider than 5/8" and as such, the offset 5/8" molding may still leave a slight gap on the edge.

Are there restrictions on the width you can produce it to? I really think we need to confirm the exact measurements some more.

Thanks!

This is very painful guys! I'll head over to G3N3R1C's place again in the next couple of weeks but three of his particle boads cabinets all seemed to measure 5/8".

I'm starting to really think we are opening a huge can of worms here! Someone at Nintendo really needs a swift kick on the gonads! I mean we have 15mm centered (plywood), 5/8" centered (particle board), 5/8" off-set (particle board)... Now you are stating you have a 1/2" cabinet... and a 5/8" offset plywood cabinet.

I would ask for a close up picture of this 5/8" offset plywood cab. I have never heard of such a thing.
