I have a Gottlieb that has factory installed mylar on the play field... what is the general consensus regarding this? Keep it or remove it... from what I've read mylar = bad, just curious about what people think in the case of factory installed.

If its in good condition, leave it alone. Even a few bubbles underneath here and there is not worth messing with IMO.

I have removed the mylar on two pins now. F-14 and a Black Knight. Some of the inserts on the F-14 were lifting underneath the mylar so it had to go. To me, the hard part/time consuming part is removing the left over adhesive.

The Black Knight had been touched up then mylared, then touched up on top again. I lost some paint in a few areas but nothing too bad. Again, removing the adhesive was the hard part.

If it's laying flat you can buff it up pretty good. If it's lifting, bubbled or dirt leeching in under the edges it's a candidate for removal.

You might want to read up on Gottlieb games. I vaguely remember that supposedly they made a game that had the artwork applied to the mylar then put down on the painted playfield. If this is the case you would not want to pull it.

Pulling it I would use canned air (inverted) or freeze spray and work slowly.
