So there are 2 different Star Trek Dedicated cabinets??

I never knew there were 2 different styles of Dedicated Star Trek machines. But since both versions came out of the factory like this, I guess they are both dedicated?

The (mostly) brown sided is the Sega vector convert a cab and the one I own. The (mostly) black sided cab is much cooler looking IMHO.

The top one is what I would call the dedicated. The bottom one is the convert a cab. Yes, it probably came out of the factory in that cab. You could call it dedicated, but I think of it as a conversion.

Its sort of like gravitar and black widow or battlezone and red baron.

Black sided? Both of these are brown.

Yes, the top one is the dedicated, the bottom one is the convert a cab and there was one other version - captain's chair.

I think there was a Star Trek conversion kit...
They had the Asteroids conversion kit.

We were discussing this on a local collectors site. Fullthrottle linked this site.

I guess its a conversion cabinet. But if you have one that came out of the factory with factory serial numbers. Would it still be considered dedicated.

What I really wonder is how many were released in the true Dedicated version, and how many in the Dedicated sega G80 version?

There was a conversion kit for Asteroids, Tempest, Converta cab and even a Stern Scramble cab (I may have missed one.)

I think I might have see a Tempest conversion once, but Scramble that one is new.

The bottom one (of your two pictures) was the Sega/Gremlin G80 cabinet. It was used for a bunch of games, including Tac/Scan, Star Trek, Space Fury and Zaxxon.

It is also heavy as h*ll. And severely top heavy.

Has anyone seen the 1972 star trek in person? What was the game play like. I'm just curious as the cabinet is funky.

I don't think that the 1972 Star Trek was ever produced as a game, and only the cabinet was made. At least I thought I read that somewhere.

Where's Mbott? His Star Trek/Asteroids conversion is one of the nicest Star Trek's I've ever seen, ever.

Hey Phet, thanks for the shout-out. :D

Here's the grail of my collection:

I've been paying the heck out of it since I got my repaired sound board back from Mongo.

Man, I have to say that Star Trek of yours is the best I've ever seen. The artwork is outrageous! I'd love to do that to the my AD converted Star Trek. Right now it has some 'totally awesome' 70's wood grained sides on the cabinet...but I have to say whoever did that, did a great job of it.

Great looking game!
