First a big thank to Shilover for getting this scanned which is always the first big hurdle on any project.
SH600.jpg

Orginally this Sideart was Stenciled Yellow, White and Silkscreened Black
Just Like other Ballys bitd Pacs, Burgertime, etc.
So Intially I thought this could just be stenciled like the others.
one BIG exception theres a halftone on the belt which cannot be stenciled

So for those wanting to restore/replace the sideart there are only 2 options
neither would be original unless you silkscreen.
Option1:Stencils modified without the halftone in the belt

Option2: 3 color Silkscreened on closest matched Red vinyl would cover entire side.

Open for opinions/options/suggestions on this one.
I allready know theres interest and like anything else would be priced accordlingly so thats not the issue but rather how to proceed with this type of art.

I'm not that experienced with stencils but owning a SH and knowing how much detail there is in the armor I find it hard to believe that most people would be happy with the result they would likely get trying to stencil this art. If I were definitely gonna restore the game I would go for the vinyl. And this comes from a guy who hates applying full vinyl side art.

Tough call. After doing a stencilled cab, I would say that nothing compares to it. I'd much rather see a stencil than a full side vinyl.

I wonder how it would look if I masked off the original belt and then stenciled the cab? The belt area on mine is in good shape.

The rest of the armor looks like a weeding-nightmare for a stencil vendor. You sure you want to do that?

i will be in for either, but would do vinyl assuming you can keep the price reasonable... and i don't mean crazy cheap, but i'd hope to pay in the $100-150 range for it.

not any worse than a bottle of pepper:D
its the halftone thats the bigger problem.

I guess a 3rd option would be to silkscreen
on white or red vinyl and have and plotter cut it to the shape.
so wouldd apply a decal to a painted cab (simialr to how I did the Football sideart)
but in going that route there are 2 problems
1- Colormatching the Red since youll be most likley repainting the cab a Speciffic Red would need to be used that I could best match to thats assuming its properly mixed at your local hardware store.
and 2-youd lose the copyright text
though Id supose you could maybe stencil that seperatly if you really wanted to add it??

Could you not do a combo stencil sort of thing? Like stencil for everything but the halftone on the belt, and then make a decal for that specific area as a sort of rub-on or sticker? The color under the halftone would of course be part of the stencil. The when you apply the belt area after careful alignment, the color underneath shows through?

It looks like the half-tone effect is nothing more than a mesh screen. Couldn't a person simply mask off the area around the belt, then apply a screen mesh over it and air brush black on it to get that pattern?

.

I agree about the vinyl version, seems like it would be nice to have a complete version of art with the correct red.

considering the amazing job rich did on my custom Death Race sideart which is one piece vinyl - everyone would be happy with a full side decal if they applied it correctly... I think that's how it should be done and the sooner the better - I know a lot of Satan's Hollow machines are in need

Prep is the key and youd still need to properly prep the cab and paint it red anyways.
But I have to agree that I think the full side vinyl option is the best.
Asumming I can get a good matched vinyl this way all art details can be matched.
Ill send a few samples out for some feedback and will go from there.
