Look at this hack!

Also the monitor frame is a crazy puzzle I sure hope I remember how to put it all back together! I put sharpie marks all over to help.

i don't see a hack in the first pic that is standard on sanyo's to have the posts and wires wrapped to them.

the second is the way you do it if you don't have the rite cap handy in the field.

Peace

Looks like the hardest part of running a cap kit on a 20 EZW is simply getting at the board...good gawd.

This ^. I absolutely hate working on these. Practically have to completely disassemble the bugger to get at the chassis!

Siamese caps! :D

cool caps from 1986....:D and the way of making a NP cap out of two polarized caps. i hope your putting in a NP cap instead and get rid of the art on the pcb..;)

About as far as I cared to tear it down was the bottom frame with the chassis attached. I can cap while it's in that frame.
Being it's so much trouble to get to, I really should go ahead and replace the flyback as well. Presuming the standard 20EZ will work for the EZZ-C?

Holy crap!
C407 Huge old 10uf160v cap. Replaced with this tiny little 10uf160v. I've tried looking for correct cap lists and cap maps for the Atari 14"/Sanyo EZZ-C but what I've come across isn't entirely accurate.
Pretty much just replacing caps I find with like.

yeah i have been meaning to build a kit for this one since i have one of these complete monitors out of a space fever so i can verify the kit properly.

Well I was close. Got down to the last cap and it called for a 22uf50v. Dang It! That is one cap I don't have.
The BR 14" Sanyo cap kit didn't even come close to the amount of caps for a complete replacement.

check out my kits next time because my goal is EVERY cap not just the high failure ones in my kits and if its possible they are all 105c and 100% nichicon and very low ESR/High hour caps.

Bob sells two kits one includes caps for the audio section and one does not. In his kits you will often be missing a couple of the caps that are low failure rate.

I really like Bob - but i get my cap kits elsewhere now.

Hey could you do the strips like ian? I only buy from ian because the strips save me a lot of time and frustration. But still I'd never buy from bob because he gets the shit xicon caps that last like 1000 hours.

since thats ian's trademark i won't but not all my caps are loose so alot are on cut tape and if you have 5 of one value in a kit i keep them together unlike bob's so there is less to go through with mine. i want to put the cost in the kit from product not labor so your getting top quality stuff and not junk like bob's kits. i always continue to add top quality caps so you do the job once.:D

Definitely thought this, looks WAAAAAY too neat to be an operator "hack".

nope, every Sanyo and G07 ever made have wire wrap posts on them.

i even have a wire wrap tool to make them look just like that.

ALL the phone companies did that as well for your phone service in their transmission hubs where all the pairs were terminated.

very common practice for the last 40+ years.

To be quite honest,
The only one that concerns me is this. So small for the original displacement. Kind of still makes me wonder if this is the appropriate cap for C407 of the EZZ-C. A 10uf160v.

I was pretty sure when I bought this that it was for the Atari version of the Sanyo, however the cap map was for the 20EZ. And I will say that this EZZ-C doesn't have alot of similarities to the 20EZ. I dipped heavily into my stock of caps to complete it.

it is rated the same but its case size being that small is a good indication that its a very low hour crap cap.(Plus the brand too) It will work but only for a short period of time. with 170 games of my own i barely have time to rebuild them once let alone every year or two so that is why i put the best quality caps in my kits plus the time to pull these out, clean, adjust and reinstall isn't worth skimping on caps to save a few dollars in my opinion.
