So I ordered from Bob Roberts last week..

The PBResource.com still does it too, the only two places I know of. One for arcade parts, one for pinball parts. Old School Baby!
I rather like my check to be headed in their direction before or as they ship. Even if I have to ask for a bounding number.

I'm uncomfortable with someone waiting for me to write a check. I like to pay up front.

I kinda like it I think? and it might even cause me to order more. It's like 'you trust me,huh?' Ok, then great, I can trust you. What else do I need? lol

I like Bob but i just can no longer order from him until he at least gets into at least the last quarter of the 20th century. I think i was one of the last people he allowed to buy using paypal and i waited months for my stuff. I sent him tons of emails and no reply. I finally got a hold of him and he went off on this rant about how he doesn't check his email or his paypal account.
That makes no sense to me.

Add him to bill pay and email him your order. Tell your bank to send him a check when he gives you a total. How is that any harder than any other site?

It's 2024. Time for him to jump on shopify or etsy.

The last time I ordered from Bob Roberts, I actually timed how long it took me from the time I started looking for my checkbook to the time the envelope was in my mailbox.

It was about 3 minutes.

It would have taken me at least 1-2 minutes to log in to paypal, use multifactor authentication, enter his info, and make a payment.

Literally it was a 1-2 minute or less time sink for me, and I enjoy chatting with Bob, and learn things from him.

Given that some people sit around and literally wait for years for a "vendor" to send them artwork...it amazes me that anyone thinks dealing with Bob is a big deal.
It isn't.

But, just like those who choose to patronize a seller that won't communicate with them and take years to ship their product...everyone should indeed vote with their wallet.

I'll continue using Bob as long as possible.

100% Agree - his store, his rules.

I'm glad he's still around as a resource.

Yes I have been buying from them in the past 2 years, mostly connectors and tools but Alice and there daughter have been filling orders which is nice and they are fast at shipping, they still do the lagniappe but you have to spend a certain amount, still fun to get stuff from them

Yeah similar for me. I did eventually get mine though.

I suggested to him to get some kind of queue that he can display on his web page kind of like mikesarcade repair queues. He said he would look into it.
How long total did you have to wait?

I don't know what the guys deal is. I mean your printing artwork. Last time I emailed him he said it's printed he just needed to laminate it. That was three weeks ago.

<Joe Szabo>

At the beginning of this year I ordered a Battle Zone Cabaret monitor shroud.
I was advised the lead time may be up to 6 + weeks. His price was right and worth
waiting for. At six weeks (or so) I made an inquiry. He responded and it arrived in
the next week. Packed very well and the quality of the print and cutting was amazing.

Oh and to keep this on topic.

I think my first order with Bob was on a 56K modem.

56K? Bloody luxury. :)

My upgrade path was 300-->1200-->2400-->9600-->14400 first. Guess I was too young for an 110 baud acoustic coupler ... lol

Everyone who can remember when Hayes 2400 baud modems were $1000, rasie your hand. grin

Only maybe 2 years ago I finally recycled an original Hayes 2400 baud modem.

2400 baud beginner here. I used to be able to mimic the sounds of it connecting.

This would be in the very late 80s. 89, maybe?

My first modem was a 300 baud acoustic coupling modem. I found BITD that 300 baud was a very nice reading speed for me. Then I jumped directly to a 2400 baud US Robotics modem and was a very early adopter and loved it. Then 9600, 28.8, then 56K. Those 56K modems never really were ever near 56K though; they virtually always negotiated down to something far less.

I was so hooked that I ended up writing communications software for a living for 7.5 years and enabling millions of people to enjoy those times. Ah, those were the days.

But to this day, has anyone ever SEEN Bob?
