So I may pass on a 350$ DK.... how hard is it to find a DK to Jamma adapter?

I'll preface this by saying I've done absolutely NO research at all into this subject...

I want DK, bad, but I really want a JAMMA cabinet so I can actually make use of the space I have. There's a nice looking DK about an hour away from me for 350, but I can't make it over there and the money situation is kind of tight...so I was thinking, if I can get an adapter and a cheap JAMMA cab and put a 4-way joy in it, I might be able to at least get some DK love that way.

Do they exist?

Around 10 years ago, Clay Cowgil sold a Nintendo to JAMMA adapter. I had one for a while. It worked great. It had the video inversion and audio amp on board. It also had adjustment pots for Red, Green, and Blue. Very nice design. It worked great. There must be some floating around somewhere.

One important thing, though. Your JAMMA cabinet must have the -5V line hooked up to the JAMMA edge from the PS or a DK board will not work properly.

Awesome, thanks guys. I don't feel so bad about it now. I can piecemeal a game together. (And not be stuck with that kind of clunky Nintendo cab..)

Clunky Nintendo cab? I wish all cabs (looking at you Atari!) were made of light weight plywood.

Amen brother!
I love my Gravitar but I fucking hate moving it.
Get an empty Pit Fighter cab, you'll love moving that beast around.:D

Yeah, I've got low to the ground fat guy leverage. I don't care about the weight so much. It's the way the cabinet is shaped. It's a box. Kind of like those Nissan SUV's, the Cube or whatever? LOL. Some things NEVER change!

I love the controls and games on Ninty cabs, just can't love the cab itself unless it's got good overlays and art. Sucks. Now someone go buy my capcom boards so I can see if this guy still has it. ;)

Unless it's a wide body cabinet, Nintendo makes some of the smallest and lightest cabinets. I would buy a dozen or so Nintendo cabs over an Atari Primal Rage, or a Mortal Kombat. The only cabinets I have that are smaller are the Taito version cabs with the slanted tops.

Do you already have a DK boardset? If not, if you're just going to pick up a JAMMA cab, I'd just throw a 60 in 1 board in there and play DK on that. There are some differences in the sounds (I think some of the analog sound reproduction may be off?), but I think otherwise the gameplay is fine. I think too, if you're not using a Nintendo power supply, DK boards can exhibit problems - I know I've seen other threads related to that. With the cost of a DK boardset, and the added cost of the adapter, if it were me I'd just throw the multigame in the there and then you can play all sorts of stuff in one cab and it won't cost you as much.

Hard to find a cabinet that is easier to move than Nintendos. That was one of the reasons I loved my DK, much easier to move than the Dig Dug I had at the time.
