i was trying to hook up my wico CRT pattern generator and i put an ISO inline on the power.. the ground from the iso was touching the monitor framd and even with the wico generator turned off (but plugged in), i hear the rice krispies (snap crackle pop) and saw some smoke from the monitor chassis (near the back end by the tube).

what did i fry? i am gonna replace the fuse, but was thinking of taking the time off since i already made a mistake - maybe i need some rest.

this is a monitor of unknown condition. i just wanted to see if it worked and also test my pattern generator.

Without knowing the monitor chassis type, how are supposed to guess what fired?

How about pulling the chassis and looking for burnt parts?

yeah, sorry about that.. its a WG19K79xx..

i looked at the chassis and it seemed to be okay.. i replaced the fuse and will try again later.. just want to see if the thing works.

Rebuild it first. The only "testing" I do on unknown condition monitors is - "Does it power up?" If so, then I rebuiild it and see what I got. if not, then I look into why not, and rebuild it first if I don't see anything obvious (like a blown flyback, HOT, fuse, etc...)
