So, anyone working on linking Disc of Tron's together?

Thought I'd ask since I have two DOT's right now (EDOT and UDOT). I have always loved the gameplay on DOT, and it's without a doubt one of my all time favorites. And to me, this would be one of the best arcade games to play head to head, period. Especially when you get to the higher levels with the discs that move up and down. The head to head skill of bouncing discs around to kill another human player vs. a computer player would bring this game to a whole new level. I kind of think of it as kind of like playing madden vs. the computer and how much different the game is against friends. HUGE difference.

I know this has been talked about briefly, but is it even possible to do? Or would someone have to write an all new program for this to happen? I'd keep both my machines if someone could figure out how to do it!

My hunch is on whole new program. Sprite hacking is one thing, but making major logic changes to an old program in machine language would probably be more difficult than making a whole new program. Plus the challenge of the boards not having any method of communication or synchronization (thus necessitating even more hardware and software mods).

Besides most folks here can't afford one DOT let alone two.

Does anyone have contact with the original programmers? I'm sure $10-20K in development, dual serial interfaces and a 286 could pull it off.

he does not but I do ....

As do I.

I've thought about the linking and head to head play as well. The reality of it is that new code would need to be written and some hardware and wiring added. I don't see this happening anytime soon. And since Sark has voice in the game, I think a head to head version should have speech for Tron as well.

People were hopeful that a head to head mode would be written into the game when it was ported for Xbox live, but it didn't happen. Contacting those developers might be worthwhile.... Although they may have just set up an emulator for the ROMs and tacked on a few title screens. At the very least they had to hack in to find variables to do achievements...

Access to the original code would be invaluable in making a 2 player head to head version that played with similar mechanics.
