Smell my Arcade

I can't believe all the comments in this thread. You guys seriously just spray piss soaked wood with a cleaner and then use a sealer to seal the piss in the wood forever?

I'm the only one that rips that shit out with a mask & gloves on and then cuts a new piece of wood? I wouldn't let my kids anywhere near a game that is soaked in rodent piss

I 2nd that. For all the trouble in cleaning or masking that stink, if it's a bottom panel, knock it out and replace with fresh plywood.

I use to have a simpsons cab that was owned by an indian guy

Was it this guy?

I use to have a simpsons cab that was owned by an indian guy, after a while my whole game room started smelling like curry, I really love Indian food but this smell was unbearable.

Do you have a pic of that mouse nest

I didn't take a pic. I have gotten two cabs that have had mouse nests in them... both behind the marquee. This one was not as bad as the other, but the piss smell is much worse! I had to use a shop vac to get everything out of there. Must have had a mouse orgy or something.

Cleaning/sealing isn't the only method i use in all honesty. I've found it much easier to just junk the game and toss the cabinet, it's alot less work.

I wouldn't go as far as junking a game if it can be avoided. Most times the nest is in the marquee area so replacing the lower piece of wood in the marquee area with a new cut piece of wood is all you gotta do.

Disinfect the rest of the cab. If a cab is soaked in piss all over then ya I'm sorry that whole cab goes in the garbage

I have a Garage-Cade and I have gotten some interesting comments over the past year. I have heard...
"It smells like a bowling ally in here"
"It smells like old wood"
"Smells like coffee"
"Who farted.... for a really long time?"

But my most recent purchase has me a bit over the top. I found an old mouse nest inside the marquee area of a recent game. Full of mouse crap and of course... piss smell.
How the HELL do you get mouse urine smell out of your game??!

I thought about sanding down the wood and repainting, but that really isn't going to cut it. Anyone have a suggestion?

My whole store smells that way. I have 200 games on our showroom that are cleaned and shopped and they still smell like ass

There is a distinct smell all of these cabinets have, but I can't place it. All the op warehouses and past super auctions were coated in it as well. It's like dust and...something else that is universal. I am hoping it isn't what rodents smell like.

Electromechanical games and pinball machines have their own smell too. It's a mixture of

Dust
Oil
burnt wood
burning coil paper

If it is up in the marquee area it shouldn't be a problem. Besides old dry mouse urine isn't going to hurt you, it is the feces that could possibly give you the hanta virus.

"This smells like the old arcades I went to as a kid"

None of these sound bad to me.....I would say some wood cleaner or an all purpose cleaner, that's a hard one cause once you wet it then it smells like nasty piss/wet wood..I have used in the past, mothballs after they dissipate it has seemed to work. I everyonce in a while through some in the corners and behind games just to keep the bugs at bay also...Good luck

An excellent cleaner for PISS smells , is you window cleaner

It has amonia in it , you know the spray packs you get ,, windex , that sort a thing

the supermarkets have loads of it ,spray it all over , leave for 5 mins , wipe off ,,job done

let it dry , if you need to do it again , no need to sand , or re coat .

I did this to 5 of my cabs , and even all my desk drawers ,, they had mice nests in them , with piss and shit everywhere ,

know they just smell like they meant to !!

I think the worst game I've bought is one that smelled like beer belch, beam and coke and menthol cigarettes...definitely spent some time in a bar as evidenced by the cigarette burns and the sticky rotten beer between the plexi and control panel.

i haven't tried it with arcade games but i have tried it with a funky smelling guitar case, and in my moms car when she had meat juice spill out of a bag one time and she didn't find out about it until it got really hot out.

Liberally sprinkle the everything with baking soda. Put plenty in the worst areas. Then wad up tons of newspapers and throw in there too. After a week or so pull everything out and vacuum up the baking soda. Repeat the process a time or two. I'm going to try this soon on a smokers machine and see if it helps some.

I've been lucky enough to never come across a game that is THAT nasty. The Omega Race I have has some mouse piss in it... but not a lot... I vacuumed the insides and sprayed the floor with black primer. The smell wasn't horrible at all... and it appeared to be pretty old...

If I came across a cabinet with wood that was saturated in stinky mouse piss I'd likely replace it.

Seal the piss! SEAL THE PISS! SEAL THE PISS!

(I just like saying that.)

Says the guy who had mice nests in his desk!

I think I spend too much time in my arcade room... as I just get used to the smell. I KNOW how it smells (as I'm keenly aware of how bad my Pole Position and Galaga smelled when I got them home)... but now the only smells I can pick up are of anything new in the room.

Two weeks ago it smelled like brake cleaner, to me, because I was making lava lamps...

Last week it smelled like the storage room where I was keeping AsteroidsDlx and Breakout (generic mall smell... near the food court.... yeah, that smell).

... and I'm already used to that smell now too. :(

Here we are, 3 years away from hover boards and flying cars... and we still don't have an useful gizmo to randomly change the smell of a room for you.
