Crossposting this from my restoration thread to maybe get some more traffic. I have this monitor that worked fine before I started my restoration, and now that I finished and started putting everything back together it's not working correctly.

Here are some pictures of what's happening. It looks like the screen is smeared with vaseline.

In checking things out, I saw that this little board seemed a bit loose. Anyone know what this thing is, or if/how it can be fixed?

That's the neck board, try GENTLY pushing it back it on the neck pins. From your pics, its possible your video sync wires could be loose or something??

Trying turning the contrast, brightness, etc down.
May need to adjust the focus on the flyback a bit as well.

Looks like maybe adjustments just got bumped around.

I tried the flyback knobs last night. :( I did see some cracked solder joints on the neckboard socket though. Would that cause the problem I have? Going to try to reflow those joints in a bit.

Well, I can't fix it. Is there anywhere I can send it, or anywhere to get a new neckboard? My monitor is a Hitachi 510YTB22-TC01.

I'd like to comment on this frightening trend I'm seeing lately of people using the word "Wonky". This needs to stop before it gets out of hand. Before we know it, people will be describing their problems with their donkey kong machines as "Wonky Nintys" and I don't think I could handle that.

As for the monitor, that's kind of a less popular one, it's hard to find somebody that knows much about them. I would guess that the problem is definately on the neckboard, did you check to make sure the focus connection (which I believe is the one that goes from the flyback to the socket on the neckboard) is still connected well?

As a final resort, if you want it fixed and fixed right I'll bet Chad at www.ArcadeCup.com could get it looking perfect for you.

Good luck.

Tried again at fixing the neckboard socket. I *think* I succeeded, but the problem remains. What else could it be? All the connections are secure as far as I can tell.

Went back a 3rd time. Socket pins are as solid as I can get them... Is it possible to just replace the neckboard?

OK, I completely removed the neckboard socket and resoldered all of the joints. The game looks a bit better now, but still pretty messed up.

This cabinet is one where the back has the bubble for the neckboard to stick out a bit. When I was restoring the cabinet, I accidentally laid it down on its back for a second before I remembered that the board sticks out. I thought that the cracked joints was the extent of the damage, but maybe not? Is there something else that may have been damaged? Someone in my restoration thread mentioned misaligned guns?

If the rest of your monitor looks like that neckboard, then your entire chassis needs to be rebuilt.

And if you have another game/monitor handy, I'd hook it up to this cab to see if the problem is definitely the monitor, and not something caused during your restoration...

Maybe. First determine that it is the monitor, then decide if the cost of new is a better decision than the cost of repair...

Just for giggles, check the video ground wire coming from the game board up to the monitor. It'll probably be black, make sure it looks like it's making good connection everywhere.

There's a photo of the neckboard in the first post, but I can't ID it from that. Almost looks like some kind of Hantarex.
